hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth

the Lord require of thee, but to do justly and to love mercy,

and to walk humbly with thy God?

Observe and hear all these words which I command thee,

know not, that he might humble thee, and that he might

prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end.

Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of

Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive

the gift of the Holy Ghost.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common

to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be

tempted above that ye are able; but will with the tempta-

tion also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to

bear it.

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the

common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you,

and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the

SERMON XIII.

DEFECTS IN THE CHURCH NO REASON FOR

SEPARATION.

2 Timothy, iii. 13, 14, 15.

Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving

and being deceived. But continue thou in the things

which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, know-

ing of whom thou hast learned them; and that from a

child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able

to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith which is in

Christ Jesus.

MELCHISEDEC A TYPE OF CHRIST.

HEBREWS, vii. 1, 2, 3.

For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high

God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of

the kings, and blessed him; to whom also Abraham gave

a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of

righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is,

King of Peace; without father, without mother, without

descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life,

but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest con-

tinually.

ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words ? saith

the Lord. The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that

he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed ;

for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father's

commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you,
