PREFACE TO 17TH EDITION

THE text has been carefully revised in the light of the latest results of Biblical Criticism, which have rendered necessary a few modifications of statements on questions of authorship. Those who desire fuller information on the subject will find it in the author's Baird Lecture on "New Testament Criticism-its History and Results."1

As regards the chronology of the apostolic age, before the destruction of Jerusalem, the dates here given should be about two years earlier, if we are to follow the most recent mode of computation.
