"Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not; for they are a rebellious house." Eze. xii. 2, "It may be they will consider, though they be a rebellious house.”

JOHN iii. 16, 17. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men thro' him might believe. That was the true light which lighteth every man that cometh into the world."

1 JOHN iv. 9. "In this was manifested the love of God towards us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him."

JOHN xii. 46, &c. "I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words and believe not. I judge him not; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”

JAMES IV. 7. "Resist the devil and he will

flee from you. Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands you Sinners, and purify your hearts ye double minded. Be afflicted and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy into heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up ;" for "The Lord is gracious and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy." Ps. cxlv. 8.

DAN. iv. 27. "We find that after Daniel had interpreted to King Nebuchadnezzer his awful and memorable dream, he addressed him thus: "Wherefore, O King, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee; and break off thy sins by rightousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity," or as in the margin," an healing of thing error." Surely if Daniel had consi.. dered that the Decree of the Almighty was irrevocably fixed, he would not have addressed the King in this mannner, or attempted to mislead him by false hopes, but we find that Nebuchadnezzer was so far from attending to this warn

ing, that at the end of twelve months, after his pride and arrogancy had risen to such a height as to draw down the displeasure of the Almighty, and the fulfilment of the threatened punishment.

Is. xxxviii. 1. How contrary was the conduct of King Hezekiah, who when he received the awful message: "Set thine house in order, for thou shalt die and not live;" humbled himself before the Lord and prayed unto him and wept sore? "Then came the word of the Lord unto Isaiah, saying, go and say to Hezekiah, thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father: I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears, behold I will add unto thy days fifteen years."-Is there any thing like predestination or unalterable decree herein!
