25 Y escribió una carta en estos términos.

26 Claudio Lisias al Optimo Presidente Felix, salud.

27 A este hombre que fué preso de los Judios, y que habría sido muerto por ellos, le libré yo sobreviniendo con una cohorte de soldados, entendiendo que erá Romano. 28 Y queriendo saber la causa porque le acusaban, le llevé al Sinedrio de ellos.

29 Y hallé que le acusaban sobre algunas cuestiones de la ley de ellos, y que ningun crimen tenía digno de muerte ni de prision.

25 And he wrote a letter after this manner :

26 Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.

27 This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

28 And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:

29 Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

31 Y los soldados tomando á Pablo conforme les había sido mandado, le llevaron de noche á Antipatride.

32 Y al dia siguiente dejando á los de á caballo que fuesen con él, se volvieron á la fortaleza.

33 Y cuando llegaron á Cesarea, y dieron la carta al Presidente, presentaron tambien á Pablo delante de él.

34 Y el Presidente leida la carta, preguntó de que provincia erá, y habiendo entendido que erá de Cilicia.

35 Te oiré le dijó, cuando vengan tus acusadores. Y mandó que fuese custodiado en el pretorio de Herodes.

CAPITULO XXIV.

Y AL cabo de cinco dias el Sumo

Sacerdote Ananías descendió con los Ancianos, y con un cierto Tertulo orador, y comparecieron ante el Presidente contra Pablo.

31 Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

32 On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

33 Who, when they came to Cesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

34 And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia; 35 I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.

CHAPTER XXIV.

AND after five days Ananias the

high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.

2 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we en

3 En todo tiempo y lugar lo reconocemos, optimo Felix, con hacimiento de gracias.

4 Mas para no detenerte por mas tiempo, te ruego que nos oigas conforme á tu equidad por un breve rato.

5 Porque hemos hallado que este hombre pestilencial, es motor de sedicion entre los Judios por todo el mundo, y cabeza de la sediciosa secta de los Nazarenos.

6 El cual tambien intentó profanar el templo, y prendiendole, le quisimos juzgar conforme á nuestra Ley.

7 Mas sobreviniendo el Tribuno Lisias, con gran violencia nos le quitó de entre las manos.

8 Mandando á sus acusadores, que viniesen á tí; por el examen del cual, tú mismo podrás enterarte de todas estas cosas de que le acu

samos.

9 Y los Judios asintieron tambien, diciendo que esto era así.

10 Entonces Pablo, (haciendole señal el Presidente de que hablase) respondió: Sabiendo que hace ya muchos años que eres Juez de esta nacion, satisfaré con tanto mejor ánimo por mí.

11 Porque puedes saber, que no ha mas de doce dias que yo subí á Jerusalem á adorar.

12 Y ni me hallaron en el templo disputando con ninguno, ni haciendo concurso de gentes, ni en la Sinagoga ni en la ciudad.

13 Ni pueden probar las cosas de que ahora me acusan.

worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,

3 We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

4 Notwithstanding, that I be hot further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words.

5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

6 Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

7 But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,

8 Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.

9 And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

10 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

11 Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.

12 And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:

13 Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse

me.

14 Pero yo te confieso esto, que segun la profesion que ellos llaman heregia, así adoro el Dios de mis padres, creyendo todas las cosas que estan escritas en la Ley y en los Profetas.

15 Teniendo esperanza en Dios que ha de haber resurreccion de los muertos, así de los justos como de los injustos, la que tambien ellos esperan.

16 Y por esto procuro yo tener siempre mi conciencia exenta de ofensa á Dios, y á los hombres.

17 Y despues de muchos años vine á hacer limosnas, y ofrendas á mi nacion.

18 Haciendo lo cual, algunos Judios de Asia me hallaron purificado en el templo, (no con gente ni con alboroto.)

19 Y los cuales convenía que compareciesen delante de tí, y acusáran si tenían algo contra mí.

20 O estos mismos digan si hallaron en mí algun crimen, cuando yo estuve en el Sinedrio.

21 A no ser por estas palabras que proferí en alta voz en medio de ellos que por la resurreccion de los muertos soy hoy juzgado de

vosotros.

22 Y cuando Felix oyó estas cosas, teniendo un conocimiento mas cabal de esta profesion, los remitió á otro tiempo, diciendo: cuando descendiere el Tribuno Lisias, acabaré de conocer de vuestro negocio. 23 Y mandó al Centurion, que Pablo soltadas las ligaduras fuese guardado, y que no vedase á ninguno de los suyos entrar á servirle.

24 Y algunos dias despues, viniendo Felix con Drusila su muger que erá Judía, llamó á Pablo, y le oyó hablar de la fé que es en JesuChristo.

14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets :

15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

17 Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.

18 Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.

19 Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had aught against me.

20 Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council,

21 Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

22 And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.

23 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.

24 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

26 Esperando asímismo que de parte de Pablo le darían dinero paraque le soltase, por lo que le hacía llamar muchas veces, y hablaba con él.

27 Mas al cabo de dos años, Felix tuvo por sucesor á Porcio Festo, y queriendo Felix ganar la gracia de los Judios, dejó preso á Pablo.

2 Y el Príncipe de los Sacerdotes, y los principales de los Judios acudieron á él contra Pablo, y le rogaban,

26 He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.

27 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.

4 But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Cesarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.

5 Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.

6 And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Cesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.

7 And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.

8 While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Cesar, have I offended any thing at all.

9 Mas Festo queriendo congraciarse con los Judios respondiendo á Pablo, dijo: ¿quieres subir á Jerusalem, y ser allí juzgado de estas cosas delante de mí?

10 Y Pablo dijó: Ante el tribunal de Cesar estoy, en donde conviene que sea yo juzgado. No he hecho injuria alguna á los Judios, como tú sabes muy bien.

11 Porque si he hecho alguna injuria, ó cometido algun delito digno de muerte, no rehuso morir: mas si nada hay de lo que estos me acusan, nadie me puede entregar á ellos: Al Cesar apelo.

9 But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?

10 Then said Paul, I stand at Cesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well

knowest.

11 For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Cesar.

13 Y pasados algunos dias, el Rey Agripa y Berenice vinieron á Cesarea á saludar á Festo.

14 Y como estuviesen allí muchos dias, Festo declaró al Rey la causa de Pablo, diciendo: aquí hay un hombre á quien Felix ha dejado preso.

15 Sobre el cual cuando vine á Jerusalem, acudieron á mí los Príncipes de los Sacerdotes, y los Ancianos de los Judios, pidiendo que le condenase.

16 A los cuales respondí; no ser costumbre de los Romanos condenar á ninguno para hacerle morir, sin que el acusado tenga á su presencia los acusadores, y sin darle lugar á defenderse de la acusacion.

17 Así que habiendo ellos venido acá sin dilacion alguna, el dia siguiente, me senté en el tribunal, y mandé traher al hombre.

13 And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Cesarea to salute Festus.

14 And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:

15 About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.

16 To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.

17 Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.
