A GOOD WOMAN.

And he (Boaz) said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid:-Ruth iii. 9. And he said, Blessed be thou of the Lord,...10. ...All the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.-11.

A gracious woman retaineth honour.-Prov. xi. 16. Every wise woman buildeth her house...Prov. xiv. 1. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.-Prov. xxxi. 10.

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.-11.

She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.-12.

She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.-13.

She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.-14.

She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.-15. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.-16.

She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.-17.

She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.-Prov. xxxi. 18.

She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.-19.

She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.-20.

She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.-21.

She maketh herself coverings of tapestry;...22. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.—23.

She maketh fine linen, and selleth it ;-24.

Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.-25.

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.-26.

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.-27.

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.-28.

Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.-29.

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord she shall be praised.-30. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.-31.

TRAIN UP CHILDREN IN THE

WAY OF GOD.

I know him, (Abraham) that he will command his children,...and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment... Gen. xviii. 19.

Ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.-Ex. xii. 24. ...When your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?-26.

That ye shall say, it is the sacrifice of the Lord's passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Eygpt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses.-27.

Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the Lord.Ex. xiii. 6.

And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the Lord did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.-8.

Only take heed to thyself,...lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they

depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons.-Deut. iv. 9.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.-Deut. vi. 5.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart :-6.

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children...7.

Gather the people together, men, women, and children,...that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and observe to do all the words of this law :-Deut. xxxi. 12.

And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the Lord your God...13.

For this child I prayed;...1 Sam. i. 27.

Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord.-28. ...And the child did minister unto the Lord before Eli the priest.-1 Sam. ii. 11.

Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the Lord.-12.

...And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.-21.

And the Lord said to Samuel,...1 Sam. iii. 11. ...I have told him (Eli) that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.-13.

Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, 1 Kings ii. 1.

I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man;—2.

And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:-3.

That the Lord may continue his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel.—4.

And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.-1 Ch. xxviii. 9.

In the eighth year of his (Josiah's) reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father.....2 Ch. xxxiv. 3.

I (Obadiah) thy servant fear the Lord from my youth.-1 Kings xviii. 12.
