I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake.-Gen. xxx. 27.

And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.Gen. xxxix. 5.

For David's sake did the Lord his God give him (Jeroboam) a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem :-1 Kings xv. 4. Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord.-5.

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted.Prov. xi. 11.

The evil bow before the good: and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.-Prov. xiv. 19.

When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.-Prov. xvi. 7.

Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord.-Lev. xix. 32.

And he (Elisha) went up from thence unto Beth-el: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.-2 Kings ii. 23.

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.-24. Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.-Job v. 26. They (the righteous) shall still bring forth fruit in old age... Ps. xcii. 14.

Old men ... Let them praise the name of the Lord.-Ps. cxlviii. 12, 13.

The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.-Prov. xvi. 31.

The beauty of old men is the grey head.Prov. xx. 29.

Despise not thy mother when she is old.Prov. xxiii. 22.

And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.Isa. xlvi. 4.

The anger of the Lord hath divided them ;... They respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.-Lam. iv. 16.

...The faces of elders were not honoured.-Lam. v. 12.

HONOUR AND RESPECT DUE

TO PARENTS.

Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.-Gen. xxvi. 18.

And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father... Gen. xxvii. 38.

When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-aram, to take him a wife from thence ;... Gen. xxviii. 6.

And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother,...7. And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;—8.

Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son,...to be his wife.-9.

We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loveth him.-Gen. xliv. 20.

And thy servant my father said unto us, Ye know that my wife bare me two sons:-Gen. xliv. 27.

And the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not since :-28.

And if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my grey hairs with sorrow to the grave.-29.

Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren.—33.

For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father.-34.
