I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake.-Gen. xxx. 27.

Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord.-Lev. xix. 32.

And he (Elisha) went up from thence unto Beth-el: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.-2 Kings ii. 23.

The beauty of old men is the grey head.Prov. xx. 29.

Despise not thy mother when she is old.Prov. xxiii. 22.

And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.Isa. xlvi. 4.

The anger of the Lord hath divided them ;... They respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.-Lam. iv. 16.

...The faces of elders were not honoured.-Lam. v. 12.

HONOUR AND RESPECT DUE

TO PARENTS.

Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.-Gen. xxvi. 18.

And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father... Gen. xxvii. 38.

When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-aram, to take him a wife from thence ;... Gen. xxviii. 6.

And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother,...7. And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;—8.

We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loveth him.-Gen. xliv. 20.

And if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my grey hairs with sorrow to the grave.-29.

Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren.—33.

For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the evil that shall come on my father.-34.

And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live ?-Gen. xlv. 3.

Haste ye, go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt come down unto me, tarry not.-9.

And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither.-13.
