And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field:...seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.-32.

...Those that walk in pride he is able to abase.—37.

When his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.-Dan. v. 20.

And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;-22.

The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground ?—Obad. i. 3.

Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord.—4.

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him. Habak. ii. 4.

For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble... Mal. iv. 1.

THE FOLLY OF CONCEIT.

He (God) respecteth not any that are wise of heart.-Job xxxvii. 24.

He flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.-Ps. xxxvi. 2. Be not wise in thine own eyes...Prov. iii. 7. The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.-Prov. xii. 15.

A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth and is confident.—Prov. xiv. 16.

All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.—Prov. xvi. 2.

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness but a faithful man who can find ?-Prov. xx. 6.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts. -Prov. xxi. 2. ...For men to search their own glory is not glory.— Prov. xxv. 27.

Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.-Prov. xxvi. 5.

Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.-12.

The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.-Prov. xxvi. 16.

Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.Prov. xxvii. 2.

The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.Prov. xxviii. 11.

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool.-26. Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!—Isa. v. 21.

WE MUST CONTROL OUR

ANGRY PASSIONS.

The Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:-Gen. iv. 4.

...And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.-5.

And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.-8.

And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: am I my brother's keeper?-9.

And he said, What hast thou done ?...10.

Now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand:-11.

When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.-12.

Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations.-Gen. xlix. 5.

...Unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united for in their anger they slew a man...6.

Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.—7.

Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him,...do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion ?— 1 Sam. xx. 30.

For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.-31.

In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king's gate, two of the king's chamberlains, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.-Est. ii. 21.

And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree.-23.
