The righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.-Ps. Xxxvii. 21.

He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.-26.

Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord shall deliver him in time of trouble.-Ps. xli. 1.

The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed on the earth.-2.

There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.-Prov. xi. 24.

The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.-25.

He that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.Prov. xiv. 21.

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.-31.

Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.-Prov. xvii. 5.

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.-Prov. xxii. 9.

He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to

want.-16.

Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:-22.

For the Lord will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.—23.

If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee ?-27.

He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack. --Prov. xxviii. 27.

The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.-Prov. xxix. 7. Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke ?—Isa. lviii. 6.

Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh ?—7.

And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day.-10.

Break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor...Dan. iv. 27.

SYMPATHISE AND BE KIND:

RETURN GOOD FOR EVIL.

Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin;... Gen. 1. 17.

And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?—19.

But as for you, ye thought evil against me;...20. Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.-21.

Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.Ex. xxii. 21.

If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again. -Ex. xxiii. 4.

If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.-5.

Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.-9.

Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.-Lev. xix. 18.

If a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him.--33.

But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.-34.

Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land.—Deut. xxiii. 7.

When thou dost lend thy brother anything, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.— Deut. xxiv. 10.

Then she (Ruth) said,...thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.-Ruth ii. 13.

And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the Lord said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David...cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.1 Sam. xxiv. 4.
