...The Lord our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth for we obeyed not his voice.Dan. ix. 14.

And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that

he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.—Jon. iii. 10.

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage ? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.-Mic. vii. 18.

He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.-19. ...Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.-Mal. iii. 7.

PRAYER.

GOD HEARETH AND ANSWERETH.

...Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.-Gen. iv. 26.

So Abraham prayed unto God... Gen. xx. 17. ...Jacob said unto his household,... Gen. xxxv. 2. ...Let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress...3.

...I turned, and came down from the mount,...and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.-Deut. ix. 15.

...And, behold, ye had sinned against the Lord your God, and had made you a molten calf:...16.

And I fell down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and forty nights:...18.

For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the Lord was wroth against you to destroy you. But the Lord hearkened unto me at that time also.-19.

And the Lord was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.-20.

And she (Hannah) was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.-1 Sam. i. 10. ...And said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life...11.

Now Hannah, she spake in heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard...13.

...And the Lord remembered her.-19.

And she said, Oh my lord,...I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the Lord.-26.

For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him :—27.

Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord.-28.

And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the Lord, mine horn is exalted in the Lord;... because I rejoice in thy salvation.-1 Sam. ii. 1.

And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the Lord our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.-1 Sam. vii. 8. ...And Samuel cried unto the Lord for Israel; and the Lord heard him.--9.

...The Lord thundered... on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them...10.

In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to

my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.-2 Sam. xxii. 7. ...And God said, Ask what I shall give thee.1 Kings iii. 5.

And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.-6.

And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king...and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.-7.

Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad.-9.

And God said unto him,...11.

Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart...12.

And Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven :—1 Kings viii. 22.

And he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath :.....23. ...Have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to this supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken
