North Western Provinces and Oudh, Central Provinces, und Hyderabad geordnet. An die Stelle dieser Ordnung tritt hier die alphabetische nach den englischen Namen der Stücke mit Hinzufügung der Presidencies in jedem einzelnen Falle.

Um den Ursprung der werthvollen Sammlung zu kennzeichnen, lasse ich die einleitenden Worte des erwähnten Verzeichnisses hier folgen:

«In a kindly and generous spirit of appreciation, and in response to a letter addressed to Lord Dufferin as Viceroy of India, November 1887, by the late librarian (Mr. Hawley), the Government of India have been at considerable pains to collect all the translations from Shakespeare's works, published in our vast dependency, and have transmitted them as a donation to the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. They and represent all the translations, that now exist in the different Indian languages. Following is a complete list of the works, their titles, languages and translators.>>

Die Versicherung, daß die Sammlung alle existierenden Uebersetzungen von Stücken Shakespeare's in die verschiedenen indischen Sprachen enthält, wird durch unsere Liste widerlegt, aus welcher ersichtlich, daß in Stratford nur eine einzige der im British Museum befindlichen Uebersetzungen vorhanden ist.
