THE TEACHER'S PRAYER-BOOK.

By the Rev. Canon BARRY, D.D.

Fellow (late) of Trinity College, Cambridge, Principal of King's College, London, Canon of Westminster, Chaplain in Ordinary to the Queen, &c.

Forms a Companion Volume to the Queen's Printers' Teacher's Bible. Prices-in cloth, 24mo. 2s. 6d. ; 16m0. 35.; 8vo. 6s.

To teachers this book will be of the greatest service, both for the large amount of matter it contains in small compass, and for the admirable way in which that matter is arranged-a page of Analyses and Notes being presented by the side of each page of the Book of Common Prayer. At the commencement of all the more important divisions in the Prayer-book Canon Barry gives in a highly-condensed form short historical introductions, which will be found of the greatest value--as, indeed, the whole Book will-by many who are not professed teachers, but who desire to be taught themselves something more than they know at present as to the origin, principles, and substance of the Prayer-book.'-Church Union Gazette.

London: EYRE & SPOTTISWOODE, Great New Street, E.C.

'The authoress, in carrying out her purpose of giving the Gospel story almost in full, yet in such simple language as to be readily understood by a child of four, or even less, has been very successful, not only in choosing appropriate words, but in exhibiting the narrative in an agreeable and picturesque style. We think it a very nice book for children, and we have no doubt that very young children will appreciate it, and be interested in it.' Queen.

A capital book for reading to the little ones a chapter at a time, and we feel sure it will be appreciated.'-Sword and Trowel.

3. FROM EGYPT TO CANAAN. By Mrs. G. E. Morton. Fcap. 8vo. with Four Illustrations and Map. 35. 6d.

Couched in plain and simple terms, the book, like its predecessor, is admirable for teaching children the main Scriptural truth.'-Graphic. Very nicely and reverently written.'-Literary Churchman. Parents should obtain it, and read it in the family.'-Christian.

Holy Week and Easter.

HE best preparation for a happy Easter is a well-spent Holy Week, and especially a well-spent Good Friday. Let me, then, in wishing you every happiness and blessing that Easter can bring, begin with a few counsels for the sadder days which prepare the way for Easter.

And first, we know that it is always our duty to keep our tempers, to be patient even if we are misunderstood, to be obedient to those who are set over us. But no time in the year offers us so much help in the battle with ill-temper or impatience as this season, when it readily comes to our mind: 'At this time some 1850 years ago my Saviour was insulted: they struck Him and laughed at Him, and even spit on Him, and He

bore it all without a word; and shall I be impatient, or discontented, or angry, because of a hard look or an unkind remark, or even an unjust reproof?' Remember what He bore, and bear-be glad to bear-a little of the same kind for His sake. Nothing will help us so much to learn good temper, patience, thankfulness, and obedience, too, as thinking how Jesus, for our sakes, 'learnt obedience by the things which He suffered.' And we may well be glad 'if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.'

Another simple piece of advice for Holy Week is this: Let some religious act take the place of some innocent pleasure each day.
