Although we do not have a quorum present at the moment, we can have the hearing but to vote on the confirmation we must have a quorum. The first matter is the nomination hearing on the appointment of Albert E. Abrahams to be an Assistant Director, Office of Economic Opportunity. Mr. Abrahams, we have your biographical sketch here with your work experience. I am pleased to note that from January 3, 1969, to the present time you have been administrative assistant to Senator Mathias of Maryland. From June of 1954 to February of 1965: Executive assistant, legislative assistant, and press secretary to Senator Clifford P. Case of New Jersey. From December 1953 to June 1954: Press assistant and legislative assistant to the late Senator Robert C. Hendrickson of New Jersey. At that time he was right across the hall from my office and I had the privilege of seeing you there. I will not read the numerous other experiences in here of a high level and intellectual nature, but I mentioned some of these because I think that your wide experience on Capitol Hill provides you with very special qualifications for this job. I am glad to see the President appoint someone who is familiar with, and has had a part in, the passage of many of these laws, and you have worked in the offices of Senators who have sympathy for the people, and I think you have a proper background to enter the Office of Economic Opportunity.
