LACROSSE.

The Brooklyn Lacrosse Club was organized in 1888 from the Brooklyn Athletic and Nassau Athletic Lacrosse Teams. On October 13 they won the "Oelrichs' Cup "and Championship from the Staten Island Lacrosse Team. Ten regular games were played during the season and one exhibition game-6 won and 5 lost. The score as follows: May 30, at New Brunswick, N. J., against Rutgers College, lost; score 4 to 3. June 23, at Washington Park, against Staten Island (exhibition), lost; score 4 to 0. June 30th, at Washington Park, against Maple Leafs, of Philadelphia, lost; score 4 to 1.

The games played on June 30, in Brooklyn, were in the Oelrichs' Cup" championship tournament.

LAWN TENNIS.

THE BROOKLYN HILL TENNIS CLUB opened their new ground with four earth courts, on Herkimer street, near Nostrand avenue, on Saturday, May 19. Their first tournament began Saturday, June 30. Only Gentlemen's Singles were played. W. A. Tomes beat D. Hotchkiss, 6-1, 6-4 and 6-3.

BROOKLYN HILL TENNIS CLUB. The second tennis tournament of the Club was played on the grounds at Herkimer street on Wednesday, October 17. Gentlemen's Singles: J. W. Raymond beat W. A. Tomes 6-1, 6-1, 5-7. Ladies' Singles: Miss Hanley beat Mrs. West 4-6, 6-5, 6-2. 6-3. Mixed Doubles: Miss Brush and J. C. Tatum beat Miss Shreve and T. W. T. Maxwell 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.

THE CRESCENT ATHLETIC CLUB held a tourna ment on Saturday, June 16, at the club grounds, corner of Ninth street and Ninth avenue. Mr. Carroll J. Post won the prize in the Gentlemen's Singles by default. In the Gentlemen's Doubles Messrs. C. J. Post and W. A. Webster took the prizes by default.

POLYTECHNIC LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION. The annual spring tournament began Monday, June 11, and continued on alternate days until finished. First-class Singles: Final Round; McMahon beat Bennett 6-2, 5-6, 6-3. Second-class Singles: Final Round: Pearsall beat Braine 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Third-class Singles: Final Round; Merian beat Minck 6-4, 6-0. Class Finals: A. S. Merian, third class (15), beat Pearsall, second class, 6-2, 6-3; McMahon, first class, beat Merian_(30), third class, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Doubles: Final Round: J.E. Brown and Crego beat McMahon and Webb 6-4, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5. Referee, Mr. James E. Brown.

The fall tournament was brought to a close on Monday, October 29, at Prospect Park. The winners were: Gentlemen's Singles: First Class: Langdon beat Pearsall 6-1, 5-6, 6-2. Second Class: Fransioli beat Merian 6-1, 6-0. Third Class: Kimball beat Hadden 6-2, 6-3. Championship Singles: Kimball, third class, beat Fransioli, second class, 6-1, 6-5; Langdon, first class, beat Kimball, third class, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5. Gentlemen's Doubles: Langdon and Kellogg beat Lanman and Raymond 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. Referee, Mr. James E. Brown.

THE PROSPECT PARK LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION is composed of over eighty clubs, and has a membership of nearly 500 players. One tournament was played during the season on the As

sociation Courts at Prospect Park, beginning Wednesday, September 26, and continuing for several days. The winners were as follows: Gentlemen's Singles: Fred Gunnison beat A. Dunn 6-0, 6-2, 6-5. Ladies' Singles: Miss Helwig beat Miss Turner 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Gentlemen's Doubles: Langdon and Curry beat Pendreigh and Pendreigh 6-2, 6-4, 6-4.

THE BROOKLYN HEIGHTS TENNIS CLUB has two turf courts at the corner of Smith and State streets; but no tournament was played in 1888. Best Tennis Records.

BROOKLYN

Wheelmen are allowed by the Park Commissioners to use the west drive of Prospect Park, the Ocean and Eastern Parkways and Coney Island Concourse, subject to the following rules: From November 1 to May 1 riding will be permitted upon all pathways before 10 A. M. and after 7 P. M. At other times no riding will be permitted on any of the pathways, excepting those south of the lake from the Irving statue to gate 4 and to Lookout Hill. The west drive running parallel with Ninth avenue, Fifteenth street and the old Coney Island road to gate 4 at the southerly entrance may be used at all times. Fast riding, racing and coasting must be dispensed with and the right side used at all times. Bicycle riders must dismount in going down Ravine Hill and Deer Paddock Hill, but tricyclers may descend these hills mounted, provided their brakes are applied. Lighted lamps must be carried by all after sundown. On the Ocean and Eastern Parkways and Coney Island Concourse riding at will may be indulged in at all times, but the rules of the road must be observed.. Wheelmen are required to register their names and addresses at the office in the Litchfield mansion, and procure a numbered badge from the Park Commissioners, which shall be worn conspicuously on the left breast, and no wheelmen will be allowed to enter the park or use the parkways and concourse without such a badge. Special privileges such as parades, entertainments to visiting clubs, etc., can be arranged by application to the park authorities.

Brooklyn Bicycle Club.

This Club has a membership of 152, receiving to its ranks in 1888 the members of the Ilderan Bicycle Club.

During the season there were five race meetings: May 12, a 20-mile road race over the Irvington and Milburn course, N. J., J. W. Schoeffer, first, 1 h. 16 m. 12 s.; May 19, a 25-mile road race over the same course was won by J. F. Borland in 1 h. 39 m. 12 s.; July 1, in the Club Championship series: the 5-mile road race on the Jericho Turnpike road, J. W. Schoeffer won in 18 m. 33 s.; the one-mile track race on the Queens Athletic Association track the same date was also won by J. W. Schoeffer in 3 m. 16 s.

July 4th, in the Novice series, W. G. F. Class won the 5 mile road race over the Jericho Turnpike Road in 20 m. 443 s.; also, the one mile track race over the Queens Athletic Club track in 3 m. 36 s. September 29th, the 3 mile track race, handicap, was won by J. W. Schoeffer, scratch, in 10 m. 63 s.; W. F. Class, 160 yards, second, in 10 m. 7 s. The first annual club parade was held on June 30th.

Kings County Wheelmen. One of the important events of the year in bicycling circles was the occupancy of the new club house at 1255 Bedford avenue by the Kings

County Wheelmen on the 15th day of February. On the 24th a bowling club was organized. On the 15th the seventh annual meeting and election of officers took place. The Club won the pool tournament with the L. I. W. on March 19th by 15 points to 1. April 14th, annual dinner at Dilliard's. May 30th, fifth semi-annual road race, K. C. W. and H. C. W. tied. June 21st, annual lantern parade on Bedford avenue, in which over 500 wheelmen joined. July 14th, the tie between the K. C. W. and H. C. W. run off, the K. C. W. victorious, winning first, third, fourth and fifth places. September 29th, two mile handicap at Queens Athletic Club Grounds, won by Mr. W. F. Murphy. November 6th, twenty-five mile club handicap at Irvington, N. J., won by Charles Murphy; John Bensinger, second. November 22d, the first of a series of ladies' receptions and musicales given in Club parlors. December 7th, a stag racket given to members and friends.

During the year several club runs were made to different parts of the country. Mr. W. F. Murphy holds the mileage record of the Club for the year, having ridden about 8,000 miles. Twentyfive other members have ridden 2,000 miles or more. The membership of the Club is 182, besides 55 veteran and honorary members. The Club held its seventh annual race meeting at the Brooklyn Athletic Association Grounds, DeKalb and Classon avenues, on Saturday, June 23d. The following were the events and winners: One mile novice, open, L. H. Wise, L. I. W., first, 3 m.; one mile handicap, open, R. L. Jones, K. C. W., 90 yards, first, 2 m. 57 s.; half mile, without using hands, F. F. Storm, K. C. W., first, 1 m. 49 s.; one and four-fifth miles team, relay race, L. I. W. first, G. W, Kreger, W. Schumacher and J. H. Wise, K. C. W., second; 5 m. 37 s;* one mile club novice, R. W. Steves, first; W. F. Murphy, second; 3 m. 16 s.; three mile New York State Chainpionship, G. W. Kreger. L. I, W., first, 10 m. 13 s.; half mile boys' race, Louis A. Schoefer, first, 1 m. 49 s.; half mile run, W, H. Roberts, B. A. A., 38 yards, first, 2 m. 3 s.; three mile handicap, J. F. Borland, B. B. Long Island Wheelmen.

The Club's first racing season was in 1888: Four races were entered into, and three won. George W. Kreger won the 3 mile State Championship at the Kings County Wheelmen meeting and every other race he entered. Several members have made century runs during their long tours, and the following have made over two thousand miles during the season. H. L. Wise, 6,500; W. Schmid, 5,000; W. Schumacher, 4,000; F. M. Tunison, 3,800; C. C. Alden, G. W. Kreger and F. B. Monell, an average of 3,000 each. The membership of the Club is 127.

The first annual race meeting was held at the Brooklyn Athletic Association Grounds, on Saturday, June 2, 1888. The winners of the events were as follows:

One mile Novice, F. B. Monell, L. I. W., first, 3 m. 21 s.; one mile handicap, E. P. Baggott, H. C. W., first, 3 m. 9 s.; two miles, Long Island Wheelmen Championship, George W.
