"According to the faith" &c. is hardly sense. Macknight says Kará means here for, or in order to, and his translation I have adopted; but Conybeare and Howson say ἀπόστολος κατὰ πίστιν means an apostle sent forth on an errand of faith.

2 The latter part of this verse has been misrendered in a manner that obscures, if it does not pervert, the sense. Our Version seems to make the main part of the ministerial

office consist in dealing with gainsayers; whereas the more important part of it mainly pertains to the training of the believing members of the Church.-Hare's Mission of the Comforter, 2nd edit. p. 360.

This is the marginal reading, and, doubtless, the exact rendering of the original.
