Preliminary remarks, 394-The divine filiation illustrates the
beneficence of Christ in the work of redemption, 395-and the
love of the Father especially, 396-The Son's dignity-the en-
dearment of his relation to the Father, 397-The unworthiness
of the objects of his beneficence.-The sorrow actually inflicted
on the Son, 398-Evidence of the divine purity-no casualty of
the redeeming work, 399-Hence the most powerful confirm-
ation of the Christian's trust in God,-and the most efficient
example of the spirit of sacrifice, 400-These the impressions
