IT is the intention of the Historical Course for Schools to place English History before young people on a plan at once adapted to the natural sequence of interest in a growing mind, and to the modern requirements of historical knowledge in general education.

"

The Stories from English History" introduce the beginner pleasantly to the chief actors and the most attractive incidents of English History. "Its aim is not to crowd the mind with facts, but to excite a living interest in men and women whose historical position the pupil will hereafter trace. It is hoped that the subjects of these Stories will become fixed points, around which a fuller knowledge of the course of history may gather, so that children meeting with them again in more advanced lesson-books may recognise old friends, with whose characters and fortunes they are already familiar.

The ground thus prepared, the reader is then introduced to the "Simple Outline of English History," which puts before him in easy language the general drift of English History from first to last, affording a framework into which to fit any fuller knowledge he may subsequently acquire.

The Class History of England" is a book specially designed for ClassTeaching. The main lines of English History are carefully emphasised, and the facts are carefully selected for their significance in the development of the national history.

The book will be found useful to students attending Historical Lectures, as a central line along which to group the more detailed and discursive knowledge offered to them, and also as a compendium for students finally gathering up their knowledge for Examination.

The Series is profusely illustrated throughout with Historical Maps, Genealogies, and Authentic Engravings of Portraits, Places, Architecture, Arms, Manners, Customs, &c.

A Specimen Copy will be sent to the Head-Masters of Schools

free on application.
