saw him, they worshipped him but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

After that, he was seen of about five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles: to whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: and, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. earth.

(MARK XVI. LUKE XXIV. ACTs i.)

BETHANY.

And he led them out as far as to Bethany; and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. So then, after the Lord had spoken unto them, and while he blessed them, it came to pass that he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.* It was while they beheld

*Christ's last interview with his chosen disciples in this world is now recorded. He conducts them to the neighbourhood of Bethany, and, possibly from the ridge of Olivet, and surrounded by scenes of greatest interest and association, bestows his parting blessing; and while his uplifted hands give the last bene

And, while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel ; which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

And they worshipped Jesus, and with great joy returned unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey. And they were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: but these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

diction, and his mouth speaks the final promise, he rises from the mount higher and yet higher, and receives the highest place of honour and power and glory in that blessed abode, where, in the splendour of Deity. he dwelt before our humanity was assumed, and where, in glorified humanity, he awaits the hour when his enemies shall be made his footstool, and whence he will come again in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory, to judge the quick and dead.
