42 Watch therefore: for ye know not on what day your Lord doth come.

43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch of the night the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken into.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45 Who then is that faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall set him over all his goods.

48 But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;

CHAPTER XXV.

T that time shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their own lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For the foolish took their lamps, and took with them no oil:

4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 And while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

6 But at midnight there was a cry made, Behold the bridegroom; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then arose all those virgins, and trimmed their own lamps.

8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out.

9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you : go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

IO And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and the virgins that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut.

other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

13 Watch therefore, for ye know not the day, nor yet the hour.

14 ¶ For it is even as a man leaving his home, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

16 But he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents.

17 And in like manner he that received the two, he also gained other two.

18 But he that received the one, went away and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

19 But after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

20 And he that had received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five other talents.

Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained beside them two other talents.

23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou wast faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

24 Then he also which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering from where thou strawedst not:

25 And I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own.

26 But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather from where I strawed not:

27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath the ten talents.

29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken 21 His lord said unto him, away even that which he hath. Well done, thou good and faith- 30 And cast ye the unprofitful servant thou wast faithful able servant into the darkness over a few things, I will set without: there shall be 1weepthee over many things: entering and gnashing of teeth. thou into the joy of thy lord.

man shall have come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd divideth the sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye

came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous

answer him, saying, Lord

when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye did it

unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is

44 Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46 And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life.

CHAPTER XXVI.

Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,

ND it came to pass, when

2 Ye know that after two days cometh the passover, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified.

3 Then assembled together the chief priests and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

5 But they said, Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.

6 ¶ Now when Jesus was in

Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as

he sat at meat.

8 But his disciples seeing it had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

9 For this might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

10 But Jesus knowing it said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she wrought a good work upon me.

II For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

12 For in that she poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, this also, that she hath done, shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

14 ¶ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

15 And said, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him up unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

16 And from that time he sought opportunity to deliver him up.

city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith. My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

19 And the disciples did as Jesus appointed them; and they made ready the passover. 20 Now when it was evening, he sat down with the twelve.

21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall 'betray me.

22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

24 The Son of man goeth his way, even as it is written of him but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is 2 betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

25 Then Judas, which 2 betrayed him, answered and said, Is it I, Rabbi? He said unto him, Thou saidst it.

26 ¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

17 Now the first day of the unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover ? 18 But he said, Go into the several of the ancient MSS.

28 For this is my blood of the 3[new] covenant, which is 1 Deliver me up. 2 Delivered up. 3 This word is not contained in

shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until the day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

30 And when they had sung the hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

32 But after I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee. 33 But Peter answered and said unto him, Though all shall be offended because of thee, I will never be offended.

34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, In this night, before the cock crov, thou shalt deny me thrice.

35 Peter saith unto him, Though I should have to die with thee, I will in no wise deny thee. In like manner also said all the disciples.

36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gthsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrow ful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

39 And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, pray

ing and saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me : nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Were ye so unable to watch with me one hour?

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is ready, but the flesh is weak.

42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, say. ing, My Father, if this may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

43 And he came again and found them asleep: for their eyes were heavy.

44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed, saying the same words.

45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he hold him fast.

Delivered up. 2 Deliver me up. 3 Delivered him up.
