10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.

11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.

12 And again, Isaiah saith, There shall be the root of Jesse, and he that riseth to rule over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles hope:

13 And may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

14 Now I am persuaded, my brethren, even I myself, concerning you, that ye also yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

15 Howbeit I have written more boldly unto you, brethren, in some measure, as putting you in mind, because of the grace given to me by God, 16 That I should be a minister of Christ Jesus the Gentiles, ministering as a priest in the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles may be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

17 I have then my boasting in Christ Jesus in the things which pertain to God.

18 For I will not dare to speak at all save of those things which Christ wrought by me, in order to the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,

19 In the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Holy Spirit; so that from Jerusalem and round_about, as far as Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ;

20 Yet on this wise making it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build upon another man's foundation:

21 But according as it is written, They to whom no tidings of him came shall see : and they that have not heard shall understand.

22 For which cause also these many times I have been hindered from coming to you.

23 But now I have no more place in these parts, and have had these many years a longing to come unto you,

24 Whensoever I take my journey into Spain :2 for I hope to see you as I pass through, and to be set forward on my journey thither by you, if first I be in some measure filled with your company.

25 But now I go unto Jerusalem, ministering unto the saints.

26 For Macedonia and Achaia have thought good to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints which are at Jerusalem.

27 They have thought it good, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been

28 When therefore I have performed this, and have secured to them this fruit, I will return by you into Spain.

29 And I know that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of Christ.

30 Now I beseech you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers for me to God; 31 That I may be delivered from them that are disobedient in Judæa; and that my ministration which is for Jerusalem may prove acceptable to the saints;

32 That I may come unto you in joy by the will of God, and may with you find

rest.

33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

TO THE

CORINTHIANS.

CHAPTER I.
AUL, called [to be] an

through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

2 Unto the church of God which is in Corinth, men sanctified in Christ Jesus, called [to be] saints, together with all that call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, both theirs and ours: 3 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I thank my God always concerning you, for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus;

5 That in every thing ye were made rich in him, in all teaching and all knowledge :

6 According as the testimony of Christ was firmly established in you:

7 So that ye come not behind in any gift; waiting for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

8 Who shall also stablish you until the end, unblameable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord

Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you;

that ye made perfect

the same mind and in the same judgment.

II For it hath been declared unto me concerning you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

12 I mean this, that each one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? Paul crucified for you, or were ye baptized into the name of Paul?

was

14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, save only Crispus and Gaius;

15 That no man should say that I baptized into mine own

name.

16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: further, I know not whether I baptized any other.

17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of speech, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that are perishing foolishness; but to us which 1 Not expressed in the original.

are being saved it is the power of God.

19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the understanding ones will I bring to nothing.

20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? did not God make foolish the wisdom of the world?

28 And the base things of the world, and the things which are despised, did God choose, the things which are not, that he might bring to nought the things that are:

29 That no flesh should glory before God.

30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who was made wisdom unto us from God, both righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:

21 For when in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knew not God, God was pleased through the fool-him glory in the Lord. ishness of preaching to save them that believe.

31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let

wisdom :

23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto Jews a stumblingblock, and unto Gentiles foolishness;

24 But unto them which are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men ; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26 For consider your calling, brethren, how that not many [of you] are wise after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble.

27 Nay, God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame the wise men; and God chose the weak things of the world that he might put to shame the things which are strong.

CHAPTER II.

ND I, brethren, when I came to you, came declaring unto you the testimony of God, not with excellency of speech or of wisdom.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with persuasive words of [man's] wisdom, but with demonstration of the Spirit and of power.

5 To the end that your faith may not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

6 Yet we speak wisdom among the perfect but a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, that are coming to nought:

7 But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God foreordain
