And when they were come out, they went 32 into the herd of swine and behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters. And they 33 that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing; and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils. And behold, 34 the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts. And he entered 9

For whether is easier to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why 11 eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? But when Jesus heard 12 that, he said unto them; They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, "I will have 13 mercy, and not sacrifice:" for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

For she said within herself, If I may 21 but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, 22 and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the 23 minstrels and the people making a noise,' he said unto them, Give place: 24 for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the 25 hand and the maid arose. And the fame hereof went abroad into all 26 that land.

city of the Samaritans enter ye not. But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast 8 out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. Provide neither gold, 9 nor silver, nor brass in your purses; nor scrip for your journey, neither 10 two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, inquire who 11 in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. And when ye come 12 into a house, salute it. And if the house be worthy, let your peace come 13 upon it but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. And who- 14 soever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house, or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Verily, I say unto you, 15 It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, in the day of judgment, than for that city. Behold, I send you forth as sheep 16 in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, 17 and they will scourge you in their synagogues: and ye shall be brought 18 before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or 19

what ye shall speak; for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father 20 which speaketh in you. And the brother shall deliver up the brother to 21 death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated 22 of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another. 23 For verily I say unto you, ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel till the Son of man be come. The disciple is not above his master, nor 24 the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his 25 master and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? 'Fear them not therefore. For there is nothing cov- 26 and encouragement. ered, that shall not be revealed: and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light and 27 what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the house-tops. And fear 28 not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not 29 two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all 30 numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many spar- 31 rows. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I con- 32 fess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny 33 me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth; I came not to send 34 peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his 35 father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own 36 household. He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy 37 of me and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy

of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not 38 worthy of me. He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that loseth 39 his life for my sake, shall find it. He that receiveth you, receiveth me; 40 and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me. He that receiveth 41 a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whosoever shall give to 42 drink unto one of these little ones, a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily, I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. AND it came to pass when Jesus had made an end of commanding his 11 twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

Luke Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and show John 4 vii. 18. again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind 5 receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended in me. And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning 7 John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft rai- 8 ment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. But 9 what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. For this is he of whom it is written, "Behold, I send 10

my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee." Verily, I say unto you, Among them that are born of women, there hath 11 not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven, is greater than he. And from the days 12 of John the Baptist, until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law 13 prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is Elias which was 14 for to come. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 'But whereunto 15 shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, ' and saying, We have piped unto you, 17 and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He 18 hath a devil. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, 19 Behold a man gluttonous, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But Wisdom is justified of her children.

Wo denounced on THEN began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of 20 the cities of Galilee. his mighty works were done, because they repented not. Wo unto thee, Chorazin! wo unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty 21 works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say unto 22 you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, 23 shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of 24 Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
