PREFACE. THE object of these Simple Stories is to interest the young in the leading events of English History, In the thirty-eight sketches of historic incidents the pupil is presented with a succession of the most prominent facts in our country's story. To assist the learner in obtaining a clear idea of the outlines of English History, the chief dates and facts are grouped together in four chapters of "Recapitulation." By means of these tables-so necessary in the memory work of teaching history -the pupils can be familiarised with all that is required for a first course of instruction in this branch of school work. The "Summary" at the end of each chapter is intended for the double purpose of home-work and dictation. |
