PREFACE.

THE author of this pamphlet is aware that many apologies should be made for offering it to the public. The work of its composition has occupied only the spare moments of a few weeks; while he has been constantly engaged in the engrossing studies of the college course.

His chief object has been to meet the pressing demands for information as to the character and condition of LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, which a residence of five years in the institution enables him to give.

Besides, it seems that an institution resting upon so broad and popular a foundation, and designed to meet the issues of such a crisis as is now upon the American people, should be brought prominently before the public.

Connected with the great name of our martyred President, ABRAHAM LINCOLN, this University stands at once his memento, and an asylum for the millions for whom he sacrificed his life.

In presenting this pamphlet to the generous reader, the author trusts that it may, in some degree, contribute to the promotion of Education and Christianity.
