When Jefus was departed thence, two blind men followed him, whofe eyes he opened, straitly charging them (but to no purpose) that no man fhould know it, Matt. ix. 27-31.

As they went out, behold, they brought unto him a dumb man poffeffed with a devil; and when the devil was caft out, the dumb spake, and the multitude marvelled; but the Pharifees blafphemed, Matt. ix. 32, 33, 34, 35.

Then went Jefus round about all their cities and villages, teaching and healing their difeafes. Then went he into his own country, and his difciples followed him, and he taught in their fynagogues on the Sabbath days, and was again contemned of them, and called the carpenter: yet were they astonished at his doctrine, Mark vi. 1-6. Matt. xii. 54-58. and he went round about their villages teaching, Mark vi. 6.

Jefus was moved with compaffion towards the multitude, when he saw the great harvest, and the few labourers, and thereupon commanded his difciples that they fhould pray the Lord that he would fend forth labourers, Matt. ix. 35-38.

Then fent Jefus the twelve apoftles by two and two, having fufficiently inftructed them with commands and power to preach and to heal diseases, Luke ix. 15. Mark vi. 7-11. Matt. x. 1-42.

And it came to pafs when Jefus had made an end of commanding his difciples, that he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities; and the twelve departed, and went through the towns preaching the gofpel, and healing every where, Luke ix. 6. Matt, xi. 1, 12, 16.

About this time (November 17th) Sejanus was killed after whofe death, Tiberius Cæfar foon knew

that

that all the crimes which he had charged upon the Jews, were feigned by himself; wherefore he commanded the governors of all the provinces, that in every town they should spare that nation, except very few that were guilty perfons; but that they fhould alter none of their cuftoms, and should make much account of them as lovers of peace, and their customs as conducing to public tranquillity.

About this time alfo was John Baptift beheaded, Mark vi. 17-28. Matt. xvi. 6, 11, 12. and when his difciples heard of it, they came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jefus, Mark

vi. 29.

The fame of Jefus being spread abroad, Herod the tetrarch, and others, hearing it, declared their opi. nions about him, and Herod defired much to fee him, Luke ix. 7, 8, 9. Mark vi. 14.

The apoftles returning, told Jefus what things they had done, Luke ix. 10. Mark vi. 30.

When Jefus had heard of the death of John, and of the deeds of the apoftles, he faid unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a defert place, and reft a while: for by reafon of the multitude they had not leifure to eat: he therefore, taking the twelve with him, went by ship privately into a defert place of the city, call ed Bethesda. But when the multitude heard it, they followed him on foot out of all cities, and outwent him, and he taught and healed them. Luke ix. 10, 11. Mark vi. 31, 32. Matt. xvi. 13, 14.

Then Jefus went up into a mountain, and there fat with his difciples, and the paffover was nigh. And when it was evening, he fed above five thousand men befides women and children, with five barley loaves and two little fishes, and there remained twelve bafkets full of fragments. ther fide, oppofite to Bethesda, towards Capernaum; and he himself went apart into a mountain to pray: and when they had gone about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, in the fourth watch of the night, Jefus went to them, walking upon the sea, and would have paffed by them; but they being affrighted, he told them who he was, rebuked Peter, and faved him from finking, fo that they were amazed and they drew to fhore, and came to the land of Gennesareth : and when he came out of the ship, as soon as it was known, they brought their fick that they might touch the hem of his garment, and they were presently made whole, John vi. 1, 21. Luke ix. 12, 17. Mark vi. 35-56. Matth. xvi. 15-36.

The next day, after that Jefus was paffed over, the peo ple which stood on this fide the fea, took shipping and came to Capernaum fecking Jefus, to whom he preached in the fynagogues of Capernaum about the bread of life, and affirmed to the Jews that murmured, that he was that bread of life. From that time many of his difciples went back, but the apostles would not go away, notwithstanding he called one of them a devil, John vi. 22, 27.

HE Scribes and Pharifees which came from Jerufalem, came to Jefus: and when they faw fome of his difciples eat with defiled, that is, unwafhen hands, they found fault, because they did not walk after the tradition of the elders, to whom Jefus answered concerning traditions, that they fruftrated the commands of God, that they might keep the tra ditions of men; and he taught the people, which he

ders of Tyre and Sidon, and he could not be hid. For a Canaanitish woman, a Gentile, a Syrophenician by nation, came to him, earneftly befeeching. him for her daughter, that was vexed with a devil: whom, when he had commended for the greatness of her faith, he caft the devil out of her daughter, Mark vii. 24— 30. Matt. xv. 21—2 -28.

And again departing from the coafts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the fea of Galilee, through the midst of the coaft of Decapolis, and they brought unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his fpeech, whom he healed, and charged him that he fhould tell no man, but all in vain, Mark vii. 31-37.

Then went he up into a mountain and fat there, and healed many, fo that the multitude wondered, Matt. xv. 29-31.

In those days, when there was a very great multitude that had remained with him three days, he fed four thousand men, befides women and children, with feven loaves, and a few little fishes, and there remained feven baskets full of fragments, Mark viii. 1-9. Matt. xv. 31-38.

And ftraightway Jefus entered into a fhip, with his difciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha, or the coafts of Magdala, Mark viii. 10. Matt. xv. 39.

And the Pharifees came to him, requiring a fign from heaven, who after he had deeply fighed, he denied any fign but that of Jonás, to thofe hypocrites, who knew how to difcern the face of the fky, but not the figns of the times; and leaving them, he entered again into a ship, and paffed to the other fide, Mark viii. 11-13. And when his disciples were come to the other fide, they had forgotten to take bread, and they had but one loaf with them in the fhip. Then Jefus faid unto them, Take heed of the leaven of the Pharifees and Sadducees, and of the leaven of Herod and they reasoned amongst themfelves, because they had forgotten to take bread: But Jefus rebuking them that they had forgotten the miraculous multiplication of the loaves, gave them to understand that he spake not of the leaven of bread, but of their doctrine, Mark viii. 14-21. Matt. xvi. 5-21.

Then came Jefus to Bethfaida, and they brought to him a blind man, whom he led out of the town, and anointed his eyes with fpittle, and he recovered his fight, and Jefus forbad him to tell it, Mark viii, 22 -26.

And Jesus went with his difciples into the towns of Cefarea Philippi: and it came to pafs as he was alone praying, and was now in the way, that he aíked his difciples, Whom do men fay that I am? When they had answered, he faid unto them, but whom do ye fay that I am? And when Peter had answered, he pronounced him happy, annexing promises, and forbad his difciples to tell any man, that he was the Christ. He alfo foretold his death, and refurrection, and called Peter Satan, because he rebuked him for fo faying; then he preached to his difciples, and to the multitude, of the cross which every one must bear that would follow him, and at length foretold his transfiguration, Luke vii. 18-27. Mark viii. 27— 38. Matth. xvi. 13—28.

And it came to pass about eight days after these things (or fix intermediate days) that he was tranffigured in an high mountain..
