At three o'clock, the members of the Council met in St. John's Church for a session in the interest of Sunday School work. The Rev. E. P. Dandridge presided. The Rev. G. Otis Mead and the Rev. Edwin R. Carter spoke on

the work of the Sunday School Institutes. The Rev. T. P. Noe, of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Wilmington, N. C., spoke of the work of the Sunday Schools.

TUESDAY, 8 P. M.

At eight o'clock the members of the Council assembled for a service in the interest of General Missions. The Bishop Coadjutor was in the Chancel. The Rev. A. W. Anson and the Rev. R. J. Alfriend read the service. The Bishop Coadjutor introduced the Rev. J. M. B. Gill, of China, who gave an address on the work of our Church in that country.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 27TH, 7:30 A. M.

Members of the Council met in the Church for service at seven-thirty o'clock. The Litany was said by the Rev. J. W. Hobson. An address was made by the Rev. W. H. Osborne. The service was closed by the Rev. F. H. Craighill.

WEDNESDAY, 9:30 A. M.

Morning Prayer was said by the Rev. Hunter Davidson and Rev. R. C. Jett.

The Bishop then called the Council to order.

The Rev. Geo. Floyd Rogers presented the following report of the Committee on Elections, and the recommendations were, on motion, adopted:

The Council of the Diocese of Southern Virginia:

We, your Committee on Credentials, beg leave to report that the Certificates have been examined and found correct, save that fourteen were deficient, being without the required signatures, being evidently an oversight, we recommend that these delegates be seated.

We further recommend that a list be annually provided for the use of this Committee, which list shall show the Parishes and Churches entitled to representation, and the number.

The Rev. H. G. Lane presented a petition from Trinity Church, South Boston, which was, on motion, referred to the Committee on New Parishes.

Rev. A. C. Thomson presented the report of the Treasurer of the Diocesan Missionary Committee, and, on motion, it was ordered printed in the Journal (See Appendix B-1.)

REPORT OF TRUSTEES OF THE FUNDS OF THE DIOCESE

To the Council of the Diocese of Southern Virginia:

The Trustees of the Funds of the Diocese respectfully report as follows, i. e.:

At the Annual Meeting of the Trustees, held on the 20th day of May, 1914, the following officers and Committees were elected: Mr. W. B. Martin, President.

Rev. W. A. Brown, Vice-President.
Mr. Robert M. Hughes, Treasurer.
Mr. W. W. Robertson, Secretary.

The report of Mr. R. M. Hughes, Treasurer, is herewith submitted, and shows that he has in his hands securities as follows: For the Widows' and Orphans' Fund........... For the Disabled Clergy Fund....

The reports accompanying the Treasurer's report, which are herewith transmitted, show that during the past year the Treasurer of the Widows' and Orphans' Fund has received $3,147.19 (of which $1,928.43 was given by the Churches), has expended the sum of $3,375.25, and has on hand $2,783.75; and the Treasurer of the Disabled Clergy Fund has received $1,764.35 (of which

$573.48 was given by the Churches), has expended $2,008.72, and has on hand $336.74 in cash and $1,500.00 in stock of the Berkley Building and Loan Association, which stock has been directed transferred to the Treasurer of the Trustees.

All of the above reports have been examined by a committee of the Trustees, which has reported them sustained by proper vouchers.

The Rev. M. B. Marshall has been elected by the Trustees a member of the Board to fill the vacancy caused by the removal from the Diocese of Rev. James M. Owens.

Mr. W. W. Old, Jr., presented the report of the Treasurer of the Diocese, which, on motion, was referred to the Finance Committee (see Appendix B-2).

On motion of Rev. C. B. Bryan, D. D., the following was adopted:

Resolved, That so much of the Bishop's report as refers to the Provincial System be referred to a committee of five Clergymen and five Laymen, to report, if possible, at this Council.

On motion of Rev. A. C. Thomson the following was adopted:

Resolved, That the consideration of the relation of this Diocese to the Provincial System as set forth in Art. VII and Canon 50, be made the special order for 10:30 A. M., Thursday morning.
