Woman's Auxiliary.

The Church Periodical Club.

Report of the Correspondent.

My dear fellow-workers in the Church Periodical Club and the Woman's Auxiliary:

It gives me much pleasure to say that in our Diocese of Southern Virginia we are steadily appreciating more and more the pleasure we can give by our Church Periodical Club. Year by year we realize that of our abundance we can help those less fortunate than ourselves.. We have so many magazines that we don't know what to do with, we simply throw them away. We now realize that we have a use for them which gives so much pleasure to many impecunious clergymen and others in remote districts.

We have many requests for Southern Churchman and for Diocesan Journal. All secular magazines are acceptable-weeklies and monthlies, not dailies and I will send you an address for any magazine you will contribute. All addresses go through me from the Secretary of the Church Periodical Club, in New York. It costs but littlefive cents-one drink of soda water-to send a monthly, and a three cent stamp will send Southern Churchman and New York Churchman together to China or to Brazil. You have no idea what pleasure it gives the missionaries until you get letters telling how the two or three or half dozen who may be there, gather around and read every word with greatest interest.

Each year we form several new chapters, but with our large number of reading people we ought to have many more.

When you have finished with your paper or magazine think of the other one, particularly the women, who would be so glad of a little good reading after a day of hard work.

Woman's Auxiliary.

Our city churches, with their large congregations, should each have a chapter of the Church Periodical Club. At some places we have had chapters that have become discouraged because they thought they could do so little; they are mistaken. It is not little that they do. The small congregation doing its best is an incentive to the larger ones to work.

If you cannot send individual magazines collect odd ones for a box to be sent to some camp or reading-room. I will give you a nearby address. Be sure you count the number of periodicals you put in the box, and keep a record of them.

In the Spring I send you a blank for your annual report. I also send my report to the General Secretary, and must put into it number of boxes sent, number of books in each box, as well as number of individual periodicals sent.

Last year we sent over five thousand. We want to increase our number each year, and in making up a box, could you not put into it a new book or two?

We wish more clergymen to understand the Church Periodical Club, and to give us their interest and cooperation. Let each branch of the Auxiliary interest its own church and clergyman in this fine work of the Church Periodical Club. Form a chapter, and write to me at Lexington, Va., and I will give them further information and send them leaflets.
