TIONAL SOLDIERS' HOME.

THE REV. CHAPLAIN JOSIAH MARTYN NEIFERT, National Soldiers' Home P. O., Virginia.

REMARKS.—This Chaplaincy is supported by the United States Government. The Government does not permit collections to be taken, hence there can be no financial report. The Chaplain's report is as follows:

My Soldiers' Home work for the year might be summed up as follows:

Parochial Reports. Franklin County.

There are in camp now, inmates, 1,700; of these 400 are confined to the Hospital, where daily visits are made; private communion administered, letters read and written.

About forty per cent. are Roman Catholics; each has some disability; out of all the average attendance is over 38 per cent. There is a service each Sunday morning, with sermon; each Sunday evening a song service; during half the year this service is illustrated by means of appropriate slides.

During the week there is a Christian Endeavor Society, a Prayer Meeting by the Colored members, a Temperance Society. The W. C. T. U., at its National Convention, has awarded us a silk flag for three consecutive years in recognition of excellent work done.

Have had 140 burials, prepared five for Confirmation, two Baptisms, two marriages.

Distributed two hundred "Daily Food"-Scriptural texts with references; seventy-five Testaments, twelve hundred Gospel and Christian Heralds.

Very sincerely yours,

J. MARTYN NEIFERT, Chaplain.
