Churches Consecrated 1.

It is gratifying to know that the Rev. Robert C. Jett has met with encouraging success in his efforts to raise the amount needed for the establishment of the Church School for Boys. It will mean everything to the Diocese, if an education under the influences of our Church can be placed in the reach of the sons of our people. The Committee which has undertaken this work has done real service. I trust that there will be from all parts of the State a liberal response to the appeal that is made for the building and endowment of this school, so that it may be opened in the Autumn of the coming year.

Bishop Coadjutor's Address.

The Bishop of the Diocese made recently an earnest request of all our congregations to rally to the support of the Board of Missions, so that there might be no curtailment of the missionary activities of our great Church. I hope that there has been a generous and general response to the call of our Bishop. The President of the Board of Missions told me last week that it was hard to explain to people why a Diocese, like Southern Virginia, which has freely given of her sons to the work of carrying the Gospel to all lands, should have fallen short every year in its contribution of money. It seems to me, my brethren, that this Council could do no better work than to make an appeal to the patriotism of those who are citizens of the Kingdom of God, to do their full part in this ministry. Three months yet remain in which to complete our apportionment. Let the campaign begin here in the Council, and let it be taken up in the Parishes, with the enthusiasm of devotion to Christ, so that we may have our place in the front rank, with the Dioceses of Virginia and West Virginia, and may lay at the feet of the Christ the full measure of our tribute, that He may use it for the enlargement of His Kingdom.

As we look over the Diocese, we have every reason to feel grateful to God for His gracious help. There is growth and advance in every direction, in the settled Parishes, in the outlying work of the mountains and mining regions, and among the Colored people. The one thing to be deplored is the lack of men to serve in the ministry, and the consequent failure to supply all the Churches. There would be no vacant Parish, if only we had five or six young men ordained for the Master's work, year by year. The remedy for this condition is to pray as He bade us, for the sending forth of laborers into the harvest, and to dedicate our sons in our hearts and in our

prayers to this high and holy calling, the blessed ministry of Christ.

And now, Brethren, I lift up my prayer to Him, who is the great Head of the Church, and humbly I beseech Him to look with the eyes of love upon this Diocese of Southern Virginia. May He breathe the breath of His inspiration upon our ministers, and may He build up all our people as an holy temple acceptable unto Himself.

BEVERLEY DANDRIDGE TUCKER,

Bishop Coadjutor.
