with him. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him; "Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee."
And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him; and all men did marvel.
Cure of the Man sick of the Palsy-Call of Levi-
AND when Jesus was passed over again by MK ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him; and he was nigh unto the sea. Again he entered into Capernaum after some Mk. ii. days; and it was noised that he was in the house. And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door; and he preached the word unto them. And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof, where he was; and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed, wherein the sick of the palsy lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said
unto the sick of the palsy; "Son, thy sins be forgiven." But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts; "Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?" And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them; Why reason ye these things in your hearts? Whether is it easier? to say to the sick of the palsy; Thy sins be forgiven thee?' or to say; Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?' But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins; (he saith to the sick of the palsy ;) I say unto thee; Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thy house.'
And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying; "We never saw it on this fashion."
And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them. And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alpheus, sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him; Follow me." L.. 29 And he arose and followed him. And Levi made him a great feast in his own house; and there was a great company of publicans, and of others, that sat down with them. But their Scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying; "Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?""
And Jesus, answering, said unto them;
They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
And they said unto him; "Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?"
And he said unto them; "Can children of the bride chamber fast while the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days." And he spake also a parable unto them; "No man putteth a piece of new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old. And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish; but new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. No man also having drunk old wine, straightway desireth new, for he saith; 'The old is better.""
And behold, there came a man, named Jai- Lili. rus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue; and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house; for he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying.
But as he went, the people thronged him. And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon
physicians, neither could be healed of any, came behind him and touched the border of his garment; and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said; "Who touched me?" When all denied, Peter, and they that were with him, said; "Master, the multitude throng thee, and press thee; and sayest thou; Who touched me ?'
And Jesus said; "Somebody hath touched me; for I perceive that virtue is gone out of
And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and, falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
And he said unto her; "Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole ; go in peace."
While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him; 66 Thy daughter is dead; trouble not
But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying; "Fear not; believe only and she shall be made whole."
And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all wept and bewailed her. But he said; Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth." And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he
put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying; "Maid, arise." And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway. And he commanded to give her meat. And her parents were astonished. But he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.
And when Jesus departed thence, two blind Mi men followed him crying, and saying; "Thou son of David, have mercy on us.' And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus saith unto them; "Believe ye that I am able to do this?" They said unto him; "Yea, Lord." Then touched he their eyes, saying; “According to your faith be it unto you.'
And their eyes were opened. And Jesus straightly charged them, saying; "See that no man know it." But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that
As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man, possessed with a devil. And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake. And the multitudes marvelled, saying; "It was never so seen in Israel." But the Pharisees said; "He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils."
