THE object of this work is to provide useful and interesting portions of reading for families, and for individuals. It was originally prepared on the same model as a work for Sunday Night Reading, which the Public has kindly accepted from my hands; but it has been entirely recast into another form, as it was found that the different requirements of those who read aloud to their families, and those who read for their own instruction only, made it desirable to alter the arrangement. This revision has enabled me to record the authorities I quote with more correctness than I could do in my former volume. I could have wished to have rendered this work more accessible to the middle and lower classes than the indispensable accessories of good type and paper have permitted me to do; because the reading of the New Testament Narrative would naturally conduce to the searching of |
