Lo! thy sun is risen in glory,
God himself appears thy friend :
All thy foes shall flee before thee,
Here their boasted triumphs end :
Great deliverance,

Zion's king vouchsafes to send.

Enemies no more shall trouble,
All thy warfare now is past;

For thy shame thou shalt have double,
Days of peace are come at last;

All thy conflicts

End in everlasting rest.

ZION'S RESTORATION.

"Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city."-ISAIAH lii. 1.

DAUG

AUGHTER of Zion, from the dust
Exalt thy fallen head;

Again in thy Redeemer trust;

He calls thee from the dead.

Awake, awake, put on thy strength,
Thy beautiful array;

The day of freedom dawns at length,
The Lord's appointed day.

Rebuild thy walls, thy bounds enlarge,
And send thy summons forth :

Say to the South, "Give up thy charge,
And keep not back, O North."

They come, they come, the exil'd bands!
Where'er they rest or roam,

They hear thy voice in stranger lands,
And hasten to their home!

ZION'S KING.

"And the Lord shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever."-MICAH iv. 7.

VION'S King shall reign victorious,

[ocr errors]

All the earth shall own his sway;
He will make His kingdom glorious,
He will reign through endless day.
Nations now from God estranged
Then shall see a glorious light;
Night to day shall then be changed,
Heav'n shall triumph in the sight.

Then shall Israel, long dispersed,
Mourning seek the Lord their God,
Look on him whom once they pierced,
Own and kiss the chastening rod;

Then all Israel shall be saved,

War and tumult then shall cease; While the greater Son of David

Rules a conquer'd world in peace.

Mighty King, Thine arm revealing,
Now Thy glorious cause maintain;
Bring the nations help and healing,
Make them subject to Thy reign.
Angels in their lofty station,
Praise Thy name, Thou only wise,
O let earth with emulation,
Join the triumph of the skies.

JERUSALEM.

"And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it."-LUKE XIX. 41.

JERUSALEM! Jerusalem!

Enthroned once on high;

Thou favoured home of God on earth,
Thou heaven below the sky;
Now brought to bondage with thy sons,
A curse and grief to see:

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!

Our tears shall flow for thee.

Where once the praises of thy God,
From Zion's temple rose,

Thy children tremble at the rod,

And crouch beneath their foes;
Thou sittest lonely on the ground,
No longer great or free:
Jerusalem! Jerusalem!

Our tears shall flow for thee.

Jerusalem! Jerusalem!

Until thou turn again,

And seek with penitence of heart,
The Lamb thy sons have slain ;
Till to the Saviour of mankind,
Thou humbly bow the knee;
Jerusalem! Jerusalem!

Our tears shall flow for thee.

JERUSALEM RESTORED.

"Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of

Jerusalem."-PSALM li. 18.

HOU source of light and love Divine,

THOU

On Zion bid thy mercy shine;

To exile now no more condemn

The Children of Jerusalem.

Redeemer of thy Zion, haste,

Why lies thine ancient dwelling waste?

Speak words of peace; and cheer with them The heart of thy Jerusalem.

May Zion be with beauty crown'd,

May rays of majesty surround:

Mercy is still thy brightest gem,

Shew mercy to Jerusalem.

Thy Zion's liberty proclaim;

Remember her reproach and shame;

Repair, for why should men contemn?
The ruins of Jerusalem.

Again, with glory in his train,

Let Zion's King on Zion reign :

Cheer, Thou that art their diadem,
Thy mourners at Jerusalem.

May joy and gladness now distil,
In sacred drops, on Zion's hill :
Arise, thou Branch of Jesse's stem,
And flourish at Jerusalem.
