"Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest."-MARK xi. 10.

L

ORD, we believe the day is nigh,

When many nations long enslaved,
Shall break forth and sing with joy,
"Hosanna to the Son of David."

Abraham's seed cast off so long,
Shall then appear among the saved,
Shall arise and join the song,
"Hosanna to the Son of David."

Jews and Gentiles shall unite,
By Satan's power no more enslaved,
And shall sing with great delight,
66 Hosanna to the Son of David."

Yet, a brighter day is nigh,

When Jesus shall collect his saved,
Men and angels then shall cry
"Hosanna to the Son of David."

HEBREW CHILDREN'S PRAISE.

46 They are beloved for the fathers' sakes."-ROMANS xi. 28.

YOD of our fathers! with whose care

G

Our infant days were crown'd;

Still let our youth thy goodness share,

As roll the seasons round.

In folly, ignorance and sin,

Fast as in years we grew:
Nor knew the danger we were in,
Nor Christ the Saviour knew.

But thou didst raise up gen'rous friends,
Friends to the Jewish race,

Through whom thy kind compassion sends
The Gospel of thy grace.

Thanks to these friends; but most to thee, Father of Greek and Jew!

Who gave our darken'd eyes to see,

Our warmest thanks are due.

THE HEBREW SCHOOL.

"I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain."

ISAIAH XlV. 19.

G

REAT God! thy glorious name we praise;

An Ebenezer here we raise ;

Rich are thy mercies which we share,
Thy goodness, language can't declare.

This School was for thy service rais'd;
By Hebrew children here thou'rt prais'd;
We learn thy holy name to fear,
Of Christ and his salvation hear.

Thy grace, O Lord, to each impart,
Thy Spirit send to every heart:

Our benefactors richly bless,

And crown our teachers with success.

Thus also may each future race,

Here learn thy word, and share thy grace: And Israel's sons and daughters sing

The praises of their God and King.

THE CHILDREN'S FRIEND.

"This is one of the Hebrews' children."-EXODUS ii. 6.

A

ND will the Almighty God on high,

Who reigns supreme above the sky; Will this great Being condescend, To be our Father and our Friend?

Will He whom bright archangels praise,
Whose will all heaven with joy obeys;
Will He for Hebrew children care,
And listen to our feeble prayer?

Yes, He will thus become our friend,
To all our prayers and wants attend;
And with his smile our sorrows chase,
If we sincerely seek his face.

Thy face we seek, our heart replies,
Stoop down, O Lord, and hear our cries;
Help us to trust in thy kind care,
Oh! let us all thy mercy share.

THE CHILD JESUS.

"The parents brought in the child Jesus."-LUKE ii. 27.

HOUGH Lord of all the worlds on high,

THOU

Sun, moon, and stars, which gild the sky, And of the earth, the air, and sea,

Jesus became a child like me.

Obedient to his dread command,

The raging winds and waves were calm'd;
The dead were raised, the blind did see,
Yet he became a child like me.

Though with th' Almighty Father One,
Though seraphs bow before his throne,
And fiends submit to his decree,
Yet he became a child like me.

Soon will all worlds before him stand;
And, as he chooses to command,
Their portion heaven or hell will be ;
Yet he became a child like me.

Yes, he like me a child became,

To bear my sins, my curse, and shame ; Eternal praise then to him be,

For being made a child like me.

9

LOVE OF CHRIST.

"For your sakes He became poor."-2 COR. viii. 9.

YHRIST is merciful and mild;

CH

He was once a little child;

He whom heavenly hosts adore,
Liv'd on earth among the poor.

Ev'ry bird can build its nest;
Foxes have their place of rest;
He, by whom the world was made,
Had not where to lay his head.

He, who is the Lord most high,
Then was poorer far than I,
That I might hereafter be
Rich to all eternity!
