The Collect for the Day.

ALMIGHTY God, in whose Holy Word

we are taught that the Sabbath was made for man, and that the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath Day, give us grace we beseech Thee to value and to improve the blessed privileges and

means of grace afforded us on this day. Solemnize our minds, fix our thoughts upon divine and heavenly things, and engage our hearts in Thy service. May we remember that the whole of this day is especially the Lord's Day; grant that we may be attentive hearers of Thy Word, and devout worshippers in Thy House of Prayer. Keep us this day from all foolish conversation, from light and trifling thoughts, and from every thing which may hinder ourselves or others from serious meditation and earnest preparation for a better and an eternal rest. Grant that in the right use of the means of grace this day vouchsafed unto us, we may be taught of God, that we may learn of Christ, and be enlightened by the Holy Spirit; and that we may henceforth grow in grace, and in the knowledge of God our Saviour. Have mercy upon the congregation with which we hope to meet in Thy House, and pour out upon us all, both Jews and Gentiles, One in Christ, the spirit of grace and supplication, for Jesus Christ's sake, our only Lord and Saviour. Amen.

Let us pray.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Christ have mercy upon us.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Our Father, &c.

O Lord, deal not with us after our sins.
Neither reward us after our iniquities.

GOD, the Father of Mercies, who out of the mouths of babes and sucklings hast ordained praise, and who didst honour the chil

dren of our forefathers, by permitting them to welcome with their glad Hosannas, the entrance of Thy Blessed Son our Lord Jesus Christ, into Thy Holy City Jerusalem, we beseech Thee to accept our praises and thanksgivings for Thy great mercies bestowed upon us the children of Thy people Israel, long scattered among the Gentiles. We thank Thee that our lot is cast in a Christian land, where many care for the souls of Thy ancient people, who are perishing for lack of knowledge. We praise Thy Holy Name that we are taught to know many things which our fathers, even many of our kings and prophets and holy men, desired to know, and were not permitted. Enable us to thank Thee for all Thy mercies to us; for our food and raiment, for our health and strength, and for all the blessings of this life; but above all, for the redemption purchased for us by the precious blood of Jesus Christ our Saviour, for all the means of grace we enjoy, for the instruction which is afforded us, and for the hope of everlasting glory given to us in Thy Word. And grant that, through the grace of Thy Holy Spirit, we may so improve these blessed opportunities, that when the Lord Jesus Christ shall come again in power and great glory, we may hear Him say, Come ye blessed children of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of
