of the Lord most high. The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge,—my saviour. I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. When the floods of ungodly men made me afraid; I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication. I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble. "He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me. I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him."

PRAISE."I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. Thou hast maintained my right and my cause; yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man. Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord. 4 Who is like unto thee, who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy, from him that spoileth him?

5"When my spirit was overwhelmed within

me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me. I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. I cried unto thee, O Lord; I said, "Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.'

6"I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall. Let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them; let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth."

Preservation of life.

4" When the waves and the sorrows of death compassed me, and the snares of death prevented me; in my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God. He heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry_came before him, even into his ears. 6The Lord hath

chastened me sore, but he hath not given me over unto death. "I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. 10 The sorrows of death compassed me, I found trouble and sorrow. Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; I was brought low, and he helped me.

11"Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks. 12 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard. 13 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs all the days of our life in the house of the Lord."

PRAISE.-"I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me. "Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; to the end that my tongue may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever; 3for the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living-the living he shall praise thee, as I do this day. 40 Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

"Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law; that thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity. Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. O Lord, truly I am thy servant; I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.'

Temporal and spiritual mercies.

EXHORTATION.- -"O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our

maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous for praise is comely for the upright.

5" The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite who covereth the heavens with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth. He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. "The Lord openeth the eyes of the blind: the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down; the Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow; he remembered us in our low estate, and hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever.

9"Bless the Lord your God for ever and ever. 10 Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God. "Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.- 12 Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty
