thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise : be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

4" When the waves 5 and the sorrows of death compassed me, and the snares of death prevented me; in my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God. He heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. 6 The Lord hath chastened me sore, but he hath not given me over unto death. "I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call

upon him as long as I live. 'Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. 10 The sorrows of death compassed me, I found trouble and sorrow. Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; I was brought low, and he helped me.

1“Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks. 12 Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him ; but when he cried unto him, he heard. 13 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

PRAISE.–1“I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; to the end that my tongue may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever; 3 for the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. The living—the living he shall praise thee, as I do this day. 40 Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave : thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

5«Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law ; that thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity 6 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. 0 Lord, truly I am thy servant; I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord. 'Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

Temporal and spiritual mercies. EXHORTATION.-1"O come, let us worship and bow down : let us kneel before the Lord our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. 2Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. The Lord hath done great things for us ; whereof we are glad. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous : for praise is comely for the upright.

56. The Lord is good to all : and his tender mercies are over all his works. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite : who covereth the heavens with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth. He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. _ The Lord openeth the eyes of the blind: the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down; the Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow; 8he remembered us in our low estate, and hath redeemed us from our enemies : for his mercy endureth for ever.

9“Bless the Lord your God for ever and ever. 10 Praise ye the Lord : for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely. Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving ; sing praise upon the harp unto

14 “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies.

PRAISE.-1"O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man that thou art mindful of him ? and the son of man that thou visitest him ? 2 Blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning : for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. Unto

thee, O my strength, will I sing : for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips : when I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

5«All thy works shall praise thee, O Lord; and thy saints shall bless thee. «Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks : for that thy name is near, thy wondrous works declare. Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits; 8thou crownest the year with thy goodness. It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High; to shew forth thy loving-kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. 10 Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our Father, for ever and

Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty : for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine ; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. —Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
