things at thy word. Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.'

"Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, "The Lord, he is the God; the Lord he is the God.''

Exhortation to decision for the Lord.

"Thus saith the Lord God: Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine, -the soul that sinneth, it shall die. For the wicked are reserved to the day of destruction; they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

3

Yet, when I say unto the wicked, 'Thou shalt surely die;' if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right; if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, and walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die. None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.

"How long halt ye between two opinions? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. -7Wash you,-make you clean: put away

"It shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments, that all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee.-Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out; and the Lord shall command blessing upon thee in all that thou settest thine hand unto: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it."

Chapter Thirty-first.

ADOPTION.

Predestination unto adoption.

1" BLESSED be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ; according as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; wherein he hath abounded toward us.

2" For when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, to redeem them that were under the law, that ye might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, 'Abba, Father.' Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God; and ye are the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
