This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. PSALM CXVIII. 24. If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable, and shalt honor him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words, then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord, and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father, for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.---ISAI. LVIII. 13. HEAVENLY FATHER, I thank thee that thou hast brought me in safety to the beginning of this holy day. May I serve my blessed Saviour on this his own day, and gain more knowledge of him continually. Let me love to hear and to read of him, and help me to feel that he is indeed my Saviour and my God. Make me to delight in thy worship, and learn what I must do to please thee. Lord, be thou with me when I am in thy house of prayer. Help me to watch over my thoughts; and grant that while my lips utter thy praises, my heart may also rise to thee in adoration of thy power and in gratitude for thy mercies. Oh God, pardon all my sins, for the sake of him whom thou hast exalted to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance unto his people and forgiveness of sins; and mercifully grant unto me such a measure of thy grace, that I, running the way of thy commandments, may obtain thy gracious promises, and be made a partaker of thy heavenly treasure, through Jesus Christ |
