O let us live, and we shall call upon Thy Name.
Ps. lxxx. 18.

THIS is the day of Light:
Let there be light to-day ;

O Dayspring, rise upon our night,
And chase its gloom away.

This is the day of Rest:
Our failing strength renew;

On weary brain and troubled breast
Shed Thou Thy freshening dew.

This is the day of Peace :

Thy peace our spirits fill;

mf Bid Thou the blasts of discord cease,
The waves of strife be still.

4 mf This is the day of Prayer :

S.M.

Let earth to heaven draw near;
cres Lift up our hearts to seek Thee there,
Come down to meet us here.

This is the first of days:

Send forth Thy quickening Breath, And wake dead souls to love and praise, O Vanquisher of death. Amen.

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will
rejoice and be glad in it. Ps. cxviii, 24.

J. Ellerton.

C.M.

THIS is the day the Lord hath made,
He calls the hours His own;
Let heaven rejoice, let earth be glad,
And praise surround the throne.

2 To-day He rose and left the dead,
And Satan's empire fell;

To-day the saints His triumphs spread,
And all His wonders tell.

3 Hosanna to the Anointed King, To David's Holy Son ;

my Help us, O Lord, descend and bring Salvation from Thy throne.

4 my Blest be the Lord, Who comes to men
With messages of grace;

Who comes, in God His Father's Name,
To save our sinful race.

5 ƒ Hosanna in the highest strains

The Church on earth can raise ;
The highest heavens in which He reigns
Shall give Him nobler praise.

6 To Thee would we our voices raise,
With Thy triumphant host;
To Father, and to Son, all praise,
And to the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Isaac Watts (1674-1748).

Unto you that fear My Name shall the Sun of
Righteousness arise with healing in His
wings. Mal. iv. 2.

1 THOU glorious Sun of Righteousness,
On this day risen to set no more,
Shine on us now to heal and bless,
With brighter beams than e'er before.
2 my Shine on Thy pure, eternal word,
Its mysteries to our souls reveal;
And whether read, remembered, heard,
O let it quicken, strengthen, heal.
3 mf Shine on the temples of Thy grace;

In spotless robes Thy priests be clad; cres Unveil the brightness of Thy Face; And make Thy chosen people glad.

Shine on all those for whom we mourn,
Who know not yet Thy healing ray :

To Thee, the Life, the Truth, the Way.'

5 Shine, till Thy glorious beams shall chase
The blinding film from every eye;
Till every earthly dwelling-place
Shall hail the Dayspring from on high.

6 Shine on, shine on, Eternal Sun!
Pour richer floods of life and light,
Till that bright Sabbath be begun-
That glorious day which knows no
night.

Amen.

Sunday Evening.

We which have believed do enter into rest. Heb. iv. 3.

Р ERE another Lord's-day close,

Ere again we seek repose,
cres Lord, our song ascends to Thee,
dim At Thy feet we bow the knee.

2 mf For the mercies of the day,
For this rest upon our way,
Thanks to Thee alone be given,
Lord of earth, and King of heaven.

p Cold our services have been,
Mingled every prayer with sin;
cres But Thou canst and wilt forgive;
By Thy grace alone we live.

4 my Whilst this thorny path we tread,
May Thy love our footsteps lead ;
When our journey here is past,
dim May we rest with Thee at last.
5 m Let these earthly Sundays prove
Foretastes of our joys above:
cres While their steps Thy pilgrims bend
To the rest which knows no end.

6 Praise the Father, praise the Son,
Holy Spirit, Three in One,

Praise Him for His wondrous love,
Till we rest with Him above.

Amen.

SUNDAY.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness
was upon the face of the deep. Gen. i. 2.

70
1 my WHEN o'er the water's misty deep

The Holy Spirit brooding sped,
The earth all void and formless lay,
No morn awoke the opening day,
Or paved with light the darkling way
Above its shoreless bed.

2 God spake,-and swifter than the flash
Upon the frowning brow of night,
From north to south and east to west,
In robes of cloudless beauty drest,
A gift, above all blessings blest,
There streamed a sea of light.

3 So light, life-giving light was made,

dim

dim

And earth with joy was mantled o'er,
The day and night divided were,

The surging mass now bright and fair,
A radiancy of glory there,

Where all was dark before.

4 Then sing, fair earth, thy Maker's praise, Who when thine orb in darkness lay, cres For thee the mighty wonder wrought, The light from out of darkness brought, And first thy shapeless ruin taught To feel the joy of day.

5 p And speak, O God, in mercy speak To souls long since defiled by sin, cres Thy wondrous sevenfold gifts impart, And through each void and darkened heart Thy grace as flashing lightning dart, And lighten all within.

6 ƒ And Thou Who on this day of days Didst rise victorious in the strife,

cres

And having died, that death might die,
Didst life and immortality

Then bring to light; (m) Hear Thou our

cry,

And give us light and life.

Amen.
