Hospitals.

They brought unto Him all that were
diseased; and besought Him that they
might only touch the hem of His gar-
ment; and as many as touched were
made perfectly whole. Matt. xiv. 35,
36.

1 THINE Arm, O Lord, in days of old
Was strong to heal and save;

It triumphed o'er disease and death,
O'er darkness and the grave;

D.C.M.

p To Thee they went, the blind, the dumb,
The palsied and the lame,

The leper with his tainted life,

The sick with fevered frame.

2 cres And lo, Thy touch brought life and health, Gave speech, and strength, and sight; And youth renewed and frenzy calmed Owned Thee, the Lord of light;

mf And now, O Lord, be near to bless, Almighty as of yore,

cres

my In crowded street, by restless couch, As by Gennesareth's shore.

3 mf Though Love and Might no longer heal
By touch, or word, or look;

Though they who do Thy work must read
Thy laws in nature's book:

cres Yet come to heal the sick man's soul,
Come, cleanse the leprous taint,

cres

Give joy and peace-(dim) where all is strife,
And strength-(dim) where all is faint.

4 mf Be Thou our great Deliverer still, Thou Lord of life and death,

cres

cres

my Restore and quicken, soothe and bless
With Thine Almighty Breath;
mf To hands that work and eyes that see
Give wisdom's heavenly lore,

cres That whole and sick, and weak and
strong,

May praise Thee evermore.

Amen.

E. H. Plumptre.

Lay we humbly at Thy Feet,
Suppliants at Thy mercy-seat.

May we now their burden share,
Bringing all our offerings meet,

Times of Trouble.

God is our hope and strength, a very present
help in trouble. Ps. xlvi. 1.

1 p GOD of our life, to Thee we call,
Afflicted at Thy Feet we fall;
When the great water-floods prevail,
Leave not our trembling hearts to fail

L.M.

2

P Friend of the friendless and the faint,
Where should we lodge our deep complaint?
Where but with Thee, Whose open door
Invites the helpless and the poor?

cres

3 mf Did ever mourner plead with Thee,
And Thou refuse that mourner's plea ?
Does not the word still fixed remain,
That none shall seek Thy Face in vain?

4

P That were a grief we could not bear, Didst Thou not hear and answer prayer: cres But a prayer-hearing, answering God Supports us under every load.

5p Then hear, O LORD, our humble cry, And bend on us Thy pitying Eye : cres To Thee their prayer Thy people make, dim Hear us for our Redeemer's sake. Amen.

W. Cowper (1731-1800); last verse from Church Hymns.

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon L.M.

Him. Ps. cxlv. 18.

561
1 mf 0 Love Divine, that stoop'st to share
Our sharpest pang, our bitterest tear!
On Thee we cast each earth-born care,
We smile at pain when Thou art near.
2 p Though long the weary way we tread,

3

And sorrow crown each lingering year, cres No path we shun, no darkness dread,

Our hearts still whispering, Thou art near. p When drooping pleasure turns to grief,

And trembling faith is changed to fear, The murmuring wind, the quivering leaf, Shall softly tell us, Thou art near.
