Take...

the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Eph. vi. 17.

7s.

1 SOLDIERS of the Cross, arise!

Gird you with your armour bright;

mf Mighty are your enemies,

Hard the battle ye must fight.

2 O'er a faithless fallen world

[ocr errors]

Raise your banner in the sky :

Let it float there wide unfurled;
Bear it onward; lift it high.

3 p'Mid the homes of want and woe,
Strangers to the living word,

cres

Let the Saviour's herald go,

Let the voice of hope be heard.

p Where the shadows deepest lie,
Carry truth's unsullied ray;

cres

Р Where are crimes of blackest dye,
There the saving sign display.

To the weary and the worn

Tell of realms where sorrows cease;
To the outcast and forlorn

Speak of mercy and of peace.

6 mf Guard the helpless; seek the strayed;
Comfort troubles; banish grief;
In the might of God arrayed,
Scatter sin and unbelief.

7 Be the banner still unfurled,

Still unsheathed the Spirit's sword,

Till the kingdoms of the world

Are the kingdom of the Lord. Amen.

545 Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of 75.

whom I am chief. 1 Tim. i. 15.

1 CHIEF of sinners though I be,

Р

cres

Jesus shed His Blood for me,
Died, that I might live on high,
ƒ Lived, that I might never die.
mf As the branch is to the vine,
I am His and He is mine.

2 Oh! the height of Jesus' love!
Higher than the heavens above,
Deeper than the depths of sea,
Lasting as eternity;

Love that found me, wondrous thought! dim Found me when I sought Him not.

3 mf Jesus only can impart

Balm to heal the smitten heart;
dim Peace that flows from sin forgiven,
Joy that lifts the soul to heaven;
my Faith and hope to walk with God,
In the way that Enoch trod.

4 p Chief of sinners though I be,
cres Christ is all in all to me :

All my wants to Him are known,
mf All my sorrows are His own;
Safe with Him from earthly strife,
He sustains the hidden life.

5 p0 my Saviour, help afford,
By Thy Spirit and Thy word;
When my wayward heart would stray,
Keep me in the narrow way;
crés Grace in time of need supply,
While I live, (dim) and when I die.

Amen.

Come, and let us return unto the Lord.
Hos. vi. 1.

8.8.8.6.

P JUST as I am, without one plea,
But that Thy Blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidd'st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about
With many a conflict, many a doubt,
Fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come.

p Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;
cres But sight, and healing of the mind,
Yea, all I need, in Thee to find,
O Lamb of God, I come.

p Just as I am, (cres) Thou wilt receive, Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; mf Because Thy promise I believe,

O Lamb of God, I come.

Just as I am, (cres) Thy love unknown
Has broken every barrier down,

Now to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,
O Lamb of God, I come.

Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise
cast out. John vi. 37.

12.11.12.11.

1 mf O COME to the merciful Saviour that calls

cr'es

you,

O come to the Lord Who forgives and forgets;

Though dark be the fortune on earth that befalls you,

There's a bright home above where the sun never sets.

2 ƒ Then come to the Saviour Whose mercy grows brighter

3

The longer you look at the depth of His love;

And fear not! 'tis Jesus, and life's cares grow lighter,

As you think of the home and the glory above.

? Have

you sinned as none else in the world sinned before you?

Are you blacker than all other creatures in guilt?

cres O fear not, and doubt not, the mother that

mf

bore you

Loves you less than the Saviour, Whose
Blood you have spilt.

4 my Then come to His Feet, and lay open your

story

dim Of suffering and sorrow, of guilt and of shame;

eres For the pardon of sin is the crown of His glory,

f

And the joy of our Lord to be true to His
Name. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

In the shelter of the fold,

my But one was out on the hills away Far off from the gates of gold;

dim Away on the mountains wild and bare, Away from the tender Shepherd's care.

2 mf' Lord, Thou hast here Thy ninety and nine;

cres

Are they not enough for Thee?'

But the Shepherd made answer: (dim) 'This of Mine

Has wandered away from Me;

And although the road be rough and steep
I go to the desert to find My sheep.'

3 mf But none of the ransomed ever knew
How deep were the waters crossed;
Nor how dark was the night that the Lord
passed through,

[merged small][ocr errors]

Ere He found His sheep that was lost.
Out in the desert He heard its cry-

Sick and helpless, and ready to die.
