CHAPTER II.

dis Dage, fee, da kom Vise fra Østen til Jerusalem, og sagde:

2. Hvor er den Jødernes Konge, som (nu) er født? thi vi have feet hans Stjerne i Østen, og ere tomne for at tilbede ham..

3. Men der Kong Herodes det hørte, blev han forfærdet, og al Jerusalem med ham.

4. Og der han havde forsamlet alle de Opperste-Præfter og Skriftkloge iblandt Follet, udspurgte han af dem, hvor Christus stulde fødes.

5. Men de sagde til ham: i Bethlehem i Judæa; thi der er saa skrevet ved Propheten:

6. Og du Bethlehem, i Judæa Land, er ingenlunde den ringefte iblandt Judo Fhrster; thi af dig skal udgaae en Fyrste, som skal være mit Folk Israels Hhrde.

7. Da kaldte Herodes de Vise hemmelig, og udspurgte af dem nøie Tiden, naar Stjernen havde ladet sig tilsyne.

8. Og han sendte dem til Bethlehem, og fagbegaaer hen, og udspørger noie om Barnet; men naar I have fundet det, da forkynder mig det, at jeg og kan komme og tilbede det.

9. Men der de havde hørt Kongen, droge de bort; og see, Stjernen fom de havde seet i Østen, gik hen for dem, indtil den kom, og stod ovenover, hvor Barnet var.

10. Men der de faae Stjernen, bleve de ganske meget glade.

11. Og de git ind i huset, og fandt Barnet med dets Moder Maria, faldt ned, og tilbade det, og oplode deres

days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go, and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child

was.

10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.' 11 ¶ And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and

12. Og der de vare blevne advarede af Gud i en Drøm, at de ikke skulde vende tilbage til Herodes, fore de ad en anden Bei bort til deres Land.

13. Men der de vare bortfarne, see, da aabenbaredes HErrens Engel for Joseph i en Drøm, og sagde: staae op, og tag Barnet og dets Moder, og flhe til Egypten, og bliv der, indtil jeg flger dig til; thi Herodes vil søge efter Barnet, for at omkomme det.

14. Men han stod op, tog Barnet og dets Moder om Natten, og veeg hen til Ægypten.

15. Og han blev der, indtil Herodes var død, at det skulde fuldkommes, som var sagt af HErren ved Prophe ten, som siger: jeg kaldte min Søn ud af Egypten.

16. Der Herodes da sage, at han var stuffet af de Vise, blev han saare vred; og sendte hen, og lod ihjelslaae alle Drengebørn, som vare i Bethlehem, og i alle dens Egne, fra to Aar og derunder, efter den Tid, som han havde note udspurgt af de Vise.

when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15 And was there until the death of Herod : that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my Son.

16 ¶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,

18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they

are not.

19 ¶ But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord apr peareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

21. Men han stod op, og tog Barnet og dets Moder, og kom til Israels Land.

22. Men der han hørte, at Archelaus regjerede i Judæa, i sin Faders Herodis Sted, frygtede han for at komme derhen; men han blev advaret af Gud i en Drøm, og veeg hen til Galilæas Egne.

23. Og han kom, og boede i en Stad, som kaldes Nazareth, at det skulde fuld fommes, som sagt er ved Propheterne, at han skal kaldes Nazaræus.

en i de samme Dage fremstod Johannes den Døber, som præditede i Judæas Ørken, og sagde: 2. Omvender eder; thi Himmeriges Rige er kommen nær.

3. Thi han er den, om hvilken Propheten Esaias haver talet, som siger: det er hans Røst, som raaber i Ørfenen: bereder HErrens Vei, gjører hans Stier rette.

4. Men Johannes, han havde sit Klædebon af Kameelhaar, og et La derbelte om sin Lend; men hans Mad var Græshopper og vild Honning.

5. Da udgif Jerusalem til ham, og det ganske Judæa, og alt Landet omtring Jordan.

21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee :

23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

CHAPTER III.

those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

2 And saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan,

6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

8. Bærer derfor Omvendelsens værdige Frugter,

8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

10 And now also the axe is laid. unto the root of the trees: there

11. Jeg døber eder vel med Vand til Omvendelse; men den, som kommer efter mig, er stærkere end jeg, hvis Stoe jeg ikke er værdig at bære; han skal døbe eder med den Hellig Aand og Jld.

13. Da fom JEsus fra Galilæa til Jordan til Johannes, for at døbes af ham.

14. Men Johannes formeente ham det meget, og sagde: jeg haver behov at debes af dig, og du kommer til mig? 15. Men JEsus svarede, og sagde til ham: tilsted det nu; thi saaledes bør det os at fuldkomme al Retfærdighed. Da tilstedte han ham.

16. Og der JEsus var døbt, steeg han stray op af Vandet; og see, Him lene aabnedes ham, og han saae Guds Aand fare ned som en Due, og komme over ham.

17. Og fee, (der kom) en Røst af Himlene, som fagde: denne er min Søn, den Elffeligë, i hvilken jeg haver Velbehag.

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

14 But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him :

17 And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

CHAPTER IV.

THEN was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to

be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

6. Er du Guds Søn, da kast dig selv her ned; thi der er skrevet: han sfat give fine Engle Befaling om dig, og de sfulle bære dig paa Hænderne, at du ikke skal støde din Fod paa nogen Steen.

7. Da sagde JEsus til ham: der er atter skrevet: du skal ikke friste HErren din Gud.

8. Atter tog Djævelen ham med sig op paa et saare høit Bjerg, og viste ham alle Verdens Riger og deres her lighed, og sagde til ham:

9. Alt dette vil jeg give dig, om du bil falde ned, og tilbede mig.

10. Da sagde JEsus til ham: viig bort, Satan! thi der er skrevet: du stal tilbede HErren din Gud, og tjene ham alene.

11. Da forlod Djævelen ham; og see, Englene gik til ham, og tjente ham.

12. Men der JEsus hørte, at Johannes var overantvordet, veeg han hen til Galilæa.

13. Og der han havde forladt Nazareth, kom han, og boede i Capernaum, det, som ligger ved Søen paa Sebulons og Naphthalis Grændser,

14. at det skulde fuldkommes, som er sagt ved Propheten Esaias, som siger:

15. Sebulons Land og Naphthalis Land ved Havets Vei paa denne Side Jordan, Hedningernes Galilæa:

16. det Folt, som sad i Mørke, haver feet et stort Lys, og dem, som sad i Dodens Land og Skygge, dem er opgaaet et Lh8.

17. Fra den Tid begyndte JEsus at prædike, og flge: omvender eder; thi Himmeriges Rige er kommet nær.

18. Men der JEfus vandrede ved

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

12 T Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;

13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea-coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim;

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:

16 The people which sat in darkness, saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up.

17 ¶ From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 18 ¶ And Jesus, walking by the
