Q. Give me some passages from the Bible in which birds are mentioned,-commencing with the raven.

A. And Noah sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth." "And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook." "Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them : how much more are ye better than the fowls?"

Q. Repeat some in which the dove is mentiond.

A. "And Noah sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground but the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark." "Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away and be at rest." "I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me." "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."

Q. Now give me some verses in which the sparrow and swallow are mentioned.

A. "Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even Thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God." "I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house-top." "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father." "As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying; so the curse causeless shall not come."

Q. Give me a verse in which the owl and the pelican are mentioned.

A. "I am like a pelican of the wilderness; I am like an owl of the desert."

Q. "Now give me some passages in which several birds are mentioned.

A. "Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth his appointed times; and the turtle, and the crane, and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the Lord." "Gavest Thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?" "Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?" "Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?"

Q. Now, one more about the eagle.

A. "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew

their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
