At the Annual Privy Council Examination for Certificates of Merit held in December, the following were the results for our two Normal Schools :

Forty-three male and forty-six female students left the Normal Schools in December last. Forty-one of the former, and thirtyone of the latter, are known to be now engaged in teaching.

The Assembly called for the Report of the Committee on Education, which, being printed and in the hands of the Members, was referred to by Mr. NIXON, the Convener, who addressed the Assembly thereanent.

It was moved, seconded, and agreed to, that the General Assembly approve of the Report, and record their thanks to the Committee, especially to the Convener.

FOLLOWING the course which has been adopted for the last two or three years, the Committee will first of all lay before the General Assembly an Abstract of their Income and Expenditure for the year ending 31st March 1867, and shall then add some remarks explanatory of the Charge and Discharge.

The first remark which the Committee has to make upon this statement is in reference to the balance. It will be observed that the year was commenced with a balance in favour of the fund of £2455, 17s. 8d., and that the balance in favour of the Scheme at 31st March last, with which the Committee have to commence operations for the present year, is only £871, 19s. 2d. In the Report which was given in last year, it was explained that the cause of
