United Nations Materials

General

The activities, proceedings, and decisions of United Nations organs, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the specialized agencies are reviewed annually, monthly, and daily in the Yearbook of the United Nations, the UN Monthly Chronicle, and the Journal of the United Nations, respectively. The most recent Yearbook is that for 1973 (Sales no. E.75.1.1). It provides a fully indexed, comprehensive account of the discussions, decisions, and activities of the United Nations and its related intergovernmental organizations. The Journal, which is supplemented by a daily list of documents distributed, provides useful current information on schedules and agenda of meetings of the General Assembly and its committees. The United Nations and Disarmament, 1970-1975,$ prepared in response to a 29th General Assembly decision to provide a supplement to The United Nations and Disarmament, 1945-1970, has now been followed by The United Nations Disarmament Yearbook, Vol. I: 1976, as a result of a recommendation to the 31st General Assembly by the Ad Hoc Committee on the Review of the Role of the United Nations in the Field of Disarmament.

Conference of the Committee on Disarmament

(formerly Eighteen Nation Disarmament Committee)

Verbatim records of the plenary committee, the Committee of the Whole, and the Subcommittee on a Treaty for the Discontinuance of Nuclear Weapon Tests of the Eighteen Nation Disarmament Committee exist in mimeographed form. Documents and verbatim records of meetings of the Conference of the Committee on Disarmament (CCD), dating from Aug. 26, 1969, also exist in mimeographed form. Summaries of statements by the various delegations on the subjects discussed at the CCD are published in the CCD report to the General Assembly. Documents of the conference, including working papers, a list of the verbatim records of the conference, and an index by subject and country of the statements made in the CCD during the year are annexed to the report. The "Special Report on the Question of a Convention to Prohibit Environmental Warfare" is also included in the 1976 report, which has been published as General Assembly Official Records: Thirty-first Session, Supplement No. 27 (A/31/27), 2 vols. The CCD special report on the question of nuclear-weapon-free zones that was undertaken in accordance with General Assembly Resolution 3261F (XXIX) has been issued as Comprehensive Study of the Question of NuclearWeapon-Free Zones in All Its Aspects (Sales no. E.76.1.7).

Disarmament Commission

Verbatim records of the meetings of the Commission exist in mimeographed form. The most recent records are those for April 21-June 16, 1965.

General Assembly

Verbatim records of plenary and First Committee meetings are published in the General Assembly Official Records. Thirty-first Session agenda items of interest are numbered 34–50, 116, 124. The texts of the resolutions adopted by the 31st General Assembly during Sept. 21-Dec. 22, 1976 have been published in General Assembly Official Records: Thirty-first Session, Supplement No. 39 (A/ 31/39), Vol. I.

International Atomic Energy Agency

The International Atomic Energy Bulletin, which is issued six times a year, contains discussions of such substantive matters as nuclear power and its fuel cycles and Latin America and nuclear energy, as well as notices on forthcoming conferences sponsored by the Agency. The Annual Report for 1976 contains a table listing both the nuclear and non-nuclear parties to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the status of their safeguards agreements with the IAEA, as well as a report on the activities of the Agency during January 1-December 31, 1976. It has been issued as GC (XXI)/580 by the IAEA and as A/31/71 by the General Assembly.

Secretary-General

The Secretary-General's report on the work of the organization for the period June 16, 1975-June 15, 1976, and his introduction to the report have been published as General Assembly Official Records: Thirty-first Session, Supplement No. 1 (A/31/1) and Supplement No. 1A (A/31/Add. 1), respectively. Respect for Human Rights in Armed Conflicts, his report on the third session of the Diplomatic Conference on Reaffirmation and Development of International Humanitarian Law Applicable in Armed Conflicts, has been issued as A/31/163. Another report of the Secretary-General, which was prepared in pursuance of General Assembly resolution 3463 (XXX),10 has been isued as Reduction of Military Budgets. Measurement and International Reporting of Military Expenditure: Report Prepared by the Group of Experts on the Reduction of Military Budgets (A/31/222 and Corr. 1).

Security Council

The 1976 report of the Security Council has been published in General Assembly Official Records: Thirty-first Session, Supplement No. 2 (A/31/2).
