SOME MULTILATERAL AND REGIONAL ORGANIZATIONS ENGAGED IN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES US Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Department of State. May 1965 L 10 455 PREFACE The material herein supplements the Secretary of State's annual report to the Congress, "U.S. Contributions to International Organizations", by giving more detail on the educational and cultural programs of the international organizations. Today the United States participates in more than 50 international organizations and is represented at over 500 international conferences each year. Over the past twenty years this type of multilateral cooperation has become a major avenue of United States foreign relations parallel with this nation's country-to-country contacts and relationships. This compilation is, in a sense, a companion volume to our earlier inventory, "Some U.S. Government Agencies Engaged in International Activities," published in 1963. Issued during International Cooperation Year, it is hoped that this will be of use to those engaged in developing broader areas of cooperation between peoples. Comments and suggestions will be welcome.
