MARCH 20-21.

PSALM Xxii. 7-8.

All they that see me laugh me to scorn; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted in the Lord that he would deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

MATTHEW Xxvii. 41-42-43.

Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others, himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him.

REV. W. HURN S.

Behold the Man with scourges torn,
And crown'd in mockery with thorn;
Nail'd to a cross and lifted high
In lingering agony to die.

He look'd but found no pity near,
No soothing comforter were there;
But mad with spite the passing crowd
Rail'd, and blasphem'd, and scoff'd aloud.

MARCH 22-23.

ISAIAH 53-9.

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death.

MATTHEW Xxvii. 57-60.

When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: He went to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out of the rock.

BISHOP HEBE R.

Oh Saviour of the faithful dead,
With whom our spirits dwell,
Though cold and damp the turf is spread
Above the narrow cell.

No more we cling to mortal clay
We doubt and fear no more.

Nor shrink to tread the darksome way
Which thou hast gone before.

MARCH 24-25.

HOSEA vi. 1-2.

Come and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. After two days will he revive us in the third day he will rise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

:

MATTHEW Xxvii. 63-xxviii. 6.

After three days I will rise again. He is not here; for he is risen, as he

said.

ARCHDEACON

WRAUGHAN.

prey

He is risen! From Death his
How has his strong grasp wrench'd away?
How the tomb's black portal forced?
How from the gaunt victor burst

He, whom whilom vanquish'd lay?
By him, I vow, whose arm of power
The Captive from his dungeon bore.

He is risen! No longer now
The grave cloth wraps his holy brow.
He is risen! Lo! thrown aside
His lone coffin's shatter'd lid-

Shatter'd by some potent blow!
Fresh'd as a giant nerv'd with wine,
Sprang from his sleep the Man Divine.

MARCH 26-28.

DANIEL vii. 16.

And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

MATTHEW Xxviii. 18.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

KEBLE.

God the Lord a King remaineth,
Rob'd in his own glorious light;
God hath rob'd him, and he reigneth,
He hath girded him with might,
Hallelujah!
God is King in depth and height.

In his everlasting station

Earth is pois'd to swerve no more; Thou hast laid thy throne's foundation, From all time where thought can soar, Hallelujah!

Lord thou art for ever more.

MARCH 28-29.

PSALM i. 3.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in due season; his leaf also shall not whither, and whatsoever he doeth it shall prosper.

MATTHEW Xxviii. 19.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

CHARLOTTE

ELIZABETH.

Soldier, go-but not to claim

Mouldering spoils of earth-born treasure,
Not to build a vaunted name;

Not to dwell in tents of pleasure;
Dream not that the way is smooth,
Hope not that the thorns are roses;
Turn no wistful eye of youth,

Where the sunny beam reposes;-
Thou hast sterner work to do,
Hosts to cut thy passage through :
Close behind the gulfs are burning-
Forward!-there is no returning.
