That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish.

MATTHEW Xxii. 34-46.

But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together, &c. &c. While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus answered them, Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. He said unto them, How then does David in spirit call him Lord, saying: The Lord said unto my Lord, sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. If David then called him Lord, how is he is son? And no man was able to answer him a word; neither durst any man, from that day forth, ask him any more questions.

As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant, I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. MATTHEW Xxvi. 28.

For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

When sunk beneath the galling load,
Of thy transgression's chain,-
Turn, helpless sinner,-turn to God,
And thou shalt rise again!

He will thy guilt and sins forgive,—
And bid the contrite spirit live.

A sacred fountain still remains-
'Tis mercy's plenteous tide ;-
It flows to wash our guilty stains,
By Jesus' blood supplied :-
And still his grace and love attend
The soul that seeks the Sinner's Friend;
