say, The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off. Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God, There shall none of my words be prolonged any more; but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord God." (Ezek. xii. 21-28.) "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still." The hour of God's judgment is come; "and now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." (Matt. iii. 10-12.) "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last." This is the second warning of the near approach of the Lord of glory. shall come as a thief. Blessed are they that watch and pray, lest they enter into temptation. "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city." Christ's commandments are not grievous; all He asks is, that we believe in Him, and love our brethren as we love Himself. These are the commandments of Jesus, and blessed are they that do them; they shall receive the gift of God's Spirit, as a Spirit of life,
love, peace, and joy; and their whole spirit, soul, and body, being wholly sanctified, they shall come from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south, and entering in by the gates on either side of the city, they shall sit down with Abraham in the kingdom of God, and the Lord Himself shall be for ever in their midst. "And these are the goings out of the city on the north side, four thousand and five hundred measures. And the gates of the city shall be after the names of the tribes of Israel: three gates northward; one gate of Reuben, one gate of Judah, one gate of Levi. And at the east side four thousand and five hundred: and three gates; and one gate of Joseph, one gate of Benjamin, one gate of Dan. And at the south side four thousand and five hundred measures: and three gates; one gate of Simeon, one gate of Issachar, one gate of Zebulun.
At the west side four thousand and five hundred, with their three gates; one gate of Gad, one gate of Asher, one gate of Naphtali. It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The Lord is there." (Ezek. xlviii. 30-35.) "For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie." Without, in the state of the impenitent, are unbelievers and deceivers, and they whose spirits are rebellious, working what is unseemly in themselves; they who have tyrannized over others, destroying that freedom of will which God gave to every man; they who have worshipped the creature rather than the Creator; they who received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved; but who, in opposition to the strivings of God's Spirit, and the remonstrances of conscience, persisted in the doing of what was wrong,
loving a lie, and making a lie with which to deceive others; pharisees and hypocrites, whose judgment is just.
Ver. 16-20. "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches." It is the Lord Himself who now speaks unto men from heaven, through the man He has appointed; see that ye refuse not him that speaketh. "I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." Jesus is the root of David: "And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth." (Isa. xi. 10-12.) He is also the offspring of David, for out of the family of David, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for "The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." (John xii. 23, 24, 31, 32.) "He is the bright and the morning star;" the Lord of angels. "And the Spirit and the
bride say, Come. And let him that heareth, say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." There is not one living upon the earth, but may be a partaker of eternal life and heavenly happiness if he will; and whosoever comes short of the glory of God will be self-condemned, for he would not, even when entreated and beseeched, accept God's unspeakable gift. Go into all the world, and preach the gospel unto every creature: freely ye have received, freely give; and tell all men they may enter the gates of the city if they are willing; none are excluded, but they who exclude themselves; none are beyond the reach of salvation, but they who deliberately and wilfully despise it. "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." The book of God's remembrance is the opened books of nature, scripture, and providence. What is written, if not in accordance with what is already revealed, must be rejected: "to the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." (Isa. viii. 20.) Nothing can be added, neither must any thing be diminished from what was written aforetime; wo unto that man who will do either the one or the other; but blessed are they, who, like the noble Bereans, will search the Scriptures daily, whether these things be so. I speak as unto wise men, judge ye what I say; if God
be not now speaking, take heed how and what you hear; but if you cannot but perceive the finger of God, see that ye refuse not him that speaketh. "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly: Amen. Even so, the Lord Jesus has now come." Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. all. Amen."
