MCCRAY OF INDIANA IN PRISON. Warren T. McCray, governor of Indiana, ceased to hold that office on April 30, 1924. after he had been found guilty of using the mails to defraud. He was placed on trial in the United States District court in Indianapolis. Ind., before Judge Albert B. Anderson on Monday, April 21. Evidence was introduced showing that through correspondence with Indiana bankers he had sold to them numerous cattle notes which turned out to be worthless. On the next day MeCray sent in his resignation as governor and it went into effect on the 30th upon the arrival in Indianapolis of Emmet F. Branch lieutenant-governor, who at once took the oath as governor. Judge Anderson. on Wednesday. April 30, sentenced McCray to ten years in prison and a fine of $10,000. The former governor was immediately sent to Atlanta, Ga., where on May 1 he began serving his sentence in the federal prison there.
