236 3 My Saviour's precious blood 4 5 He pass'd through death's dark raging flood To make my rest secure. The Comforter is come, The earnest has been given; He leads me onward to the home Reserved for me in heaven. Bright angels guard my way, And watching round me night and day, 6 Loved ones have gone before, 7 8 1 2 I soon shall greet them on that shore, Thy love, most gracious Lord, Till thou shalt speak the gladdening word, And then through endless days We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Rom v. 1, 2. THERE is no night in heaven; In that blest world above Work never can bring weariness, There is no grief in heaven; For life is one glad day; And tears are of those former things [S.M. 3 4 5 There is no sin in heaven; There is no death in heaven; Lord Jesu, be our Guide; O lead us safely on, Till night and grief and sin and death 237 And so shall we ever be with the Lord. [D.S.M. 1 FOR ever with the Lord: 2 Amen, so let it be. Life from the dead is in that word, 'Tis immortality. Here in the body pent, Absent from him I roam, Yet nightly pitch my moving tent My Father's house on high, 3 Yet clouds will intervene, s; And all my prospect flies Like Noah's dove I flit between 4 Anon the clouds depart, The winds and waters cease, While sweetly o'er my gladden'd heart I hear at morn and even, At noon and midnight hour, That shout of victory. Once more, For ever with the Lord; 238 Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; [P.M. that glory may dwell in our land.-Ps. lxxxv. 9. 1 THE sands of time are sinking, And glory, glory dwelleth In Emmanuel's land. 2 There the red Rose of Sharon, While by its fragrance fann'd, 3 0, Christ he is the Fountain, There, to an ocean fulness, And glory, glory dwelleth 4 With mercy and with judgment I'll bless the Heart that plann'd, 5 I shall sleep sound in Jesus, My presence doth command, 6 The bride eyes not her garment, But on my King of grace;— 239 Here have we no continuing city, but we seek [7s. 63. one to come.-Heb. xiii. 14. PART I. 1 BRIEF life is here our portion; brief sorrow, short-lived care; The life that knows no ending, the tearless life, is there. O happy retribution: short toil, eternal rest: For mortals and for sinners a mansion with the bless'd. 2 And now we fight the battle, but then shall wear the crown Of full and everlasting and passionless renown; But he, whom now we trust in, shall then be seen and known; And they, that know and see him, shall have him for their own. 3 The morning shall awaken, the shadows shall decay, And each true-hearted servant shall shine as doth the day: There God, our King and Portion, in fulness of his grace, Shall we behold for ever, and worship face to face. PART II. 1 For thee, O dear, dear Country, mine eyes their vigils keep; For very love, beholding thy happy name, they weep. The mention of thy glory is unction to the breast, And medicine in sickness, and love, and life, and rest. 2 O one, O only mansion, O Paradise of joy, Where tears are ever banish'd, and smiles have no alloy; The Lamb is all thy splendour, the Crucified thy praise; His laud and benediction thy ransom'd people raise. 3 With jasper glow tuy bulwarks, thy streets with emeralds blaze; The sardius and the topaz unite in thee their rays; Thine ageless walls are bonded with amethyst unpriced; The saints build up its fabric, and the Cornerstone is Christ. |
