5 Men die in darkness at your side,
Without a hope to cheer the tomb; Take up the torch and wave it wide,
rne torch that lights time's thickest gloom. 6 Toil on, faint not, keep watch and pray; Be wise the erring soul to win; Go forth into the world's highway, Compel the wanderer to come in.
7 Toil on, and in thy toil rejoice;
For toil comes rest, for exile home; Soon shalt thou hear the Bridegroom's voice, The midnight cry, Behold I come."
110 Look on the fields, for they are white already [D. 8s. 7s. to harvest.-John iv. 35.
1 LORD, her watch thy Church is keeping; When shall earth thy rule obey? When shall end the night of weeping, When shall break the promised day? See the whitening harvest languish, Waiting still the labourers' toil; Was it vain-thy Son's deep anguish? Shall the strong retain the spoil? 2 Tidings, sent to every creature, Millions yet have never heard; Can they hear without a preacher? Lord Almighty, give the word. Give the word; in every nation Let the Gospel trumpet sound, Witnessing a world's salvation,
To the earth's remotest bound.
3 Then the end: thy Church completed, All thy chosen gather'd in, With their King in glory seated, Satan bound, and banish'd sin :
Gone for over, parting, weeping,
Hunger, sorrow, death, and pain;- Lo! her watch thy Church is Loeping, Come, Lord Jesu, come to reign."
Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end [8s. 7s. 4. of the world.-Matt. xxviii. 20.
1 SPEED thy servants, Saviour, speed them: Thou art Lord of winds and waves;
They were bound, but thou hast freed them; Now they go to free the slaves; Be thou with them,
'Tis thine arm alone that saves. 2 Friends and home and all forsaking, Lord, they go at thy command; As their stay thy promise taking, While they traverse sea and land: O be with them:
Lead them safely by the hand. 3 Where no fruit appears to cheer them, And they seem to toil in vain, Then in mercy, Lord, draw near them, Then their sinking hopes sustain : Thus supported,
Let their zeal revive again.
4 In the midst of opposition
Let them trust, O Lord, in thee: When success attends their mission, Let thy servants humble be: Never leave them,
Till thy face in heaven they see;
5 There to reap, in joy for ever,
Fruit that grows from seed here sown; There to be with him, who never
Ceases to preserve his own,
And with triumph
Sing a Saviour's grace alone..
Come over and help us.-Acts xvi. 9. 1 FROM Greenland's icy mountains, From India's coral strand, Where Afric's sunny fountains Roll down their golden sand; From many an ancient river, From many a palmy plain, They call us to deliver
Their land from error's chain. 2 What though the spicy breezes Blow soft o'er Ceylon's isle, Though every prospect pleases, And only man is vile: In vain with lavish kindness The gifts of God are strown, The heathen in his blindness
Bows down to wood and stone. 3 Can we, whose souls are lighted With wisdom from on high, Can we to men benighted The lamp of life deny? Salvation, O salvation !
The joyful sound proclaim, Till each remotest nation Has learnt Messiah's name. 4 Waft, waft, ye winds, his story, And you, ye waters, roll; Till, like a sea of glory,
It spreads from pole to pole; Till, o'er our ransom'd nature, The Lamb for sinners slain, Redeemer, King, Creator,
In bliss returns to reign.s
Daily shall he be praised.-Ps. lxxii. 15. 1 HAIL to the Lord's Anointed, Great David's greater Son! Hail, in the time appointed, His reign on earth begun!
He comes to break oppression, To set the captive free; To take away transgression, And rule in equity.
2 He shall come down like showers Upon the fruitful earth; And love, joy, hope, like flowers, Spring in his path to birth: Before him on the mountains Shall peace, the herald, go; And righteousness, in fountains, From hill to valley flow.
3 Arabia's desert-ranger
To him shall bow the knee : The Ethiopian stranger His glory come to see. With offerings of devotion,
Ships from the isles shall meet Το pour the wealth of ocean In tribute at his feet.
4 To him shall prayer unceasing, And daily vows ascend; His kingdom still increasing, A kingdom without end: The mountain dews shall nourish A seed in weakness sown, Whose fruit shall spread, and flourish, And shake like Lebanon.
5 O'er every foe victorious, He on his throne shall rest, From age to age more glorious, All-blessing and all-bless'd. The tide of time shall never
His covenant remove;
His name shall stand for ever,
His changeless name of love."
114 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the Jubilee [78. Gs. to sound.-Lev. xxv. 9.
10 BROTHERS, lift your voices, Triumphant songs to raise; Till heaven on high rejoices, And earth is fill'd with praise. Ten thousand hearts are bounding With holy hopes and free; The Gospel trump is sounding, The trump of Jubilee.
2 O Christian brothers, glorious Shall be the conflict's close: The cross hath been victorious, And shall be o'er its foes. Faith is our battle-token: Our Leader all controls; Our trophies, fetters broken; Our captives, ransom'd souls.
3 Not unto us-Lord Jesus, To thee all praise be due; Whose blood-bought mercy frees us, Has freed our brethren too. Not unto us-in glory
The angels catch the strain, And cast their crowns before thee Exultingly again.
4 Captain of our salvation, Thy presence we adore: Praise, glory, adoration
Be thine for evermore. Still on in conflict pressing On thee thy people call, Thee King of kings confessing, Thee crowning Lord of all."
